Part of East Hollywood Is Designated 'Little Armenia'

LOS ANGELES--The City Council on Friday designated a portion of east Hollywood as "Little Armenia" in an effort to recognize the community's vast "presence and voice in Los Angeles."
Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, who introduced the motion, told her colleagues that the area is "the traditional birthplace" for the city's Armenian community.
"The city of Los Angeles comprises a variety of communities that make up our rich tapestry of cultures," Goldberg said. "In recognition of this diversity, the city occasionally designates a certain geographic area with historical significance, location and other unique characteristics."
The area is bounded by Hollywood Boulevard on the north, Santa Monica Boulevard on the south, the Hollywood Freeway on the west and Vermont Avenue on the east.
A ceremony is expected to be held later this month to officially recognize the community, which is just to the south of the recently designated Thai Town.
"The Armenian business and residential community in this area has indicted an overwhelming support for an official Little Armenia designation by the city of Los Angeles," Goldberg said. "Organizers have canvassed local residents, merchants and property owners and have confirmed that there is broad-based community support for an official designation."

Kazza, if you ever decide to check out that area keep your hand on your wallet/purse.

Seems kinda too late for the designation since many of the business have relocated to Glendale. Maybe Glendale will be designated "Big Armenia".
