Whether it was a result of an ethnic conflict, or a plan to exterminate a certain ethnic or religious minority, crimes against targeted groups must come to an end. In the Russian Federation, a small but growing movement commonly known as the “Skinhead movement” has been receiving a great deal of media coverage over its heinous crimes against non-Slavic subjects who live in Russia. Armenians, Jews, Chechens, Gypsies, etc, have been the major targets for these neo-fascists who believe in a Russia for Russians. The same belief was held by the Young Turks with goal of creating a Pan-Turkic society, and also by Adolf Hitler with his dream of creating an “Aryan nation”. As Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his presidency will come to an end shortly, political oppositionists have begun to hit the streets and an unfortunate escalade in violence has begun against minorities living in Moscow.
On June 1st, 2007, Moscow region jury acquitted 16-year-old Anton Polusmyak from accusations of killing 19-year-old Artur Sardarian, an ethnic Armenian from Moscow. The court found Polusmyak (a Russian Skinhead) not guilty despite two eye-witnesses telling the court they saw Sardarian being assaulted by Polusmyak. The court’s decision has angered many Armenians around the world. A hate crime against an Armenian in Russia is something most Armenians would never believe would happen due to the close relations both Armenia and Russia share. In 2007, 31 people have died as a result of this new wave of hate crimes against non-Slavic Russian citizens. It is reported that Russian authorities do little in stopping and arresting key skinhead members. This new wave of hate crimes in Russia must come to an end and must be taken seriously by the Russian Parliament before more ethnic minorities die due to great level of ignorance possessed by Russian Skinheads.

ANOTHER ARMENIAN CITIZEN IS KILLED IN MOSCOW

A criminal case on premeditated murder was initiated in Saint Petersburg. On Thursday night hooligans assaulted a group of Armenians, who were returning from a wedding party. A 37-year-old Armenian citizen was gravely injured and died later in hospital. 6 Armenian citizens were going to spend the night in a hostel in Lunacharsky Avenue, according to investigators. Three unknown attacked them and provoked a fight that resulted in tragedy, Hayinfo reported.

RUSSIAN RACISTS CARRY OUT GROUP ATTACKS

The racist attack on Caucasians and Asians in the center of Moscow on June 22 was not only a hooligan attack as the Russian officials used to formulate in those cases.

Several racists attacked Armenian Davit Hovhannisian, who left Yerevan for Moscow for about 10 years ago, and other Caucasians and Asians on June 22 in Moscow, "Moskovski komsomolets" newspaper informed. They knifed him twice.

"They appeared from somewhere. They were about 20. They knifed my back twice. Then they began to beat me. They let me go only when the police appeared", told the 17-years-old Davit Hovhannisian.

According to "Moskovski komsomolets" the police arrested 19-years-old Igor Sergeyev, who knifed Davit Hovhannisian. It's not the first time that Igor Sergeyev came to Moscow to take part in racist attacks on foreigners.

According to Moscow police 42 people are arrested, not only Caucasian but also members of so-called "Movement against illegal migration",

Moscow authorities called the leaders of political parties and NGOs to forbid youth and teenagers to be involved in such illegal actions, as racist actions.

Anyway, according to official sources the racist-activists started the fight, but the Caucasians and Asians will also be answerable for it - maybe for standing up against the beating and hiding.

With outbreaks of Russian nationalism and Skinheads in Russia many ethnic groups have been targeted such as the Armenians. One of the activists, Izabela Sarkisian, cited statistics according to which some 3000 Armenians have been murdered in Russia in the past ten years.

“In Russia there are nearly 1.5-2 million Armenians. It means over 1% of the population of the country. It’s assumed that if annually 30.000 people are murdered in Russia then 1 Armenian dies a day. According to the statistics it’s normal. But every time an Armenian is killed in Russia a great noise is made by the Armenian mass media,” said the moderator of the discussion.

RUSSIAN PROSECUTORS CHARGE KILLERS OF ARMENIAN BOY FOR INCITING ETHNIC HATRED

MOSCOW, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS: Two of four young Russians, accused of killing a 15 year-old Armenian boy, Narek Kocharian, near Moscow in 2006, are indicted by prosecutors also of inciting inter-ethnic hatred.
The four Slavs attacked Narek Kocharian in 2006 November and first tried to throttle him, then stabbed him several times to death. The bleeding boy was discovered by strangers and rushed to hospital where he died. His attackers were arrested in December.
Russian newspapers reported that one of the arrested, Yevgeny Mironov, ran a sporting club where he taught martial arts and urged his students to drive all natives of Central Asia and Caucasus out of Moscow.

Murderers of Armenian sentenced to 14-year imprisonment in Kaliningrad 20.09.2007 13:53 GMT+04:00 /PanARMENIAN.Net/ A district court of Kaliningrad, Russia, has brought in a second verdict of guilty for Vladimir Podtoptanny and Denis Krupitsin, charged of killing Armenian-native Meruzhan Sargsyan and beating his brother, Meruzhan Sargsyan in September 2005. The accused were sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment under article 111.4 of the Russian Penal Code.

The first verdict, issued in 2006, supposed a more severe punishment (16 years in prison). However, it was appealed in the circuit court.

The current verdict is likely to be appealed as well, since both the prosecution and defense showed displeasure.

The body of an Armenian music student stabbed 18 times has been found on a street in southern Moscow, while two Vietnamese citizens have been hospitalized after an attack, family and officials said Tuesday.

News of the attacks may fuel worries about an outbreak of xenophobic violence, coming after the murder of two dark-skinned people and the stabbing of two others.

Ovanes Ayrumyan, 23, died immediately in the attack on Balaklavsky Prospekt in southern Moscow on Saturday, said his brother, Tigran Ayrumyan, who attended his funeral Tuesday.

"We are all in shock," said Ayrumyan, 19, speaking from the family home, where their father, Grigor, was too distraught to speak.

"You know, there are people of our nationality who behave badly and provoke people," said a family friend, who gave only her first name, Karina. "Ovanes was not one of them."

A talented musician, Ovanes Ayrumyan toured the world playing lead violin with the Chamber Orchestra of the Svetlana Richter School of Arts, said Alla Gudush, the orchestra's director.

"This was a happy person. He was a fantastic and unique guy. Everybody should strive to be like him," Gudush said.

In another attack, two Vietnamese citizens, aged 28 and 30, were admitted to the hospital with knife wounds Tuesday, Interfax reported. No other details were available.


Ayrumyan died the same day that dozens of drunken football fans aged 13 to 16 attacked three dark-skinned people while celebrating a Spartak Moscow victory on the street. They stabbed to death Sergei Nikolayev, a 46-year-old chess player and native of Buryatia, at around 5 p.m. on Ulitsa Arkhitektora Vlasova, and injured natives of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on nearby streets.

It remains unclear whether Ayrumyan was attacked by the football fans. Balaklavsky Prospekt, where he died, is roughly a 15-minute walk from Ulitsa Arkhitektora Vlasova. He had just left the Chertanovskaya metro station at about 7:30 p.m. when he was attacked.

On Sunday night, a 37-year-old Uzbek was stabbed to death about two kilometers away from Ulitsa Arkhitektora Vlasova.

Police spokesman Yevgeny Gildeyev could not be reached Tuesday, while the city's Investigative Committee, which is leading the probe into Saturday's attacks, refused to comment.

Police have denied that the attacks were racially motivated, saying Saturday's victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No suspects have been detained in any of the killings.

No other details are known about the attack on Ayrumyan, but police told the family that officers at the Chertanovskaya metro station saw a young man, in bloody clothes, run into the metro and down the escalators. He was not detained, Karina said.

Meanwhile, the Moscow City Court on Tuesday convicted three young men in a racially motivated killing. The three were accused of beating and stabbing an ethnic Kyrgyz man to death in in October 2006. The convicts were sentenced to prison terms ranging from three to 14 years.

Another Armenian was killed in the Russian Federation a day ago. 23-year-old Vahagn left one of the restaurants in St Petersburg late at night, where they were marking his 16-year-old brother’s birthday. A group of men approached him in the street and stabbed with a knife and hit with an iron tube on the head.

The witnesses tell that the local residents heard shouts, came to the place of the incident and called ambulance. Vahagn was taken to hospital and operated on immediately. The operation lasted 24 hours, after which Vahagn lived one day only. The next day he died in the hospital.

The police qualified this crime as a robbery, a hooligan misdeed. Vahagn’s relatives do not agree with this version since if it was done for robbery purposes only, the robbers would steal the golden ring, besides the wallet and the mobile phone.

Vahagn’s corpse will be brought to Yerevan today.

Because they are racially motivated in America there are millions of Armenians and it is not the same.
