Launches Thanksgiving Day Telethon
LOS ANGELES--On September 14, Armenia Fund, Inc. launched Telethon 2005--Build a New Horizon–-with a logo unveiling ceremony and reception at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael in Glendale, California.
The logo and the theme "Build a New Horizon" was created by local graphic artist Helena Gregorian. The orange and white logo features the four key elements of Telethon 2005--agricultural development, construction of water distribution systems, health care, and education.
Produced by Armenia Fund, Inc. since 1996, the Telethon has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for Armenians around the world. Through the annual Telethons, Armenians around the world are able to participate in the nation-building of their homeland by supporting large-scale infrastructure development and humanitarian projects in Armenia and Karabagh.
The Telethon 2005 launch brought together representatives from all large Armenian organizations and a number of local officials from the cities of Glendale, La Canada, Pasadena, and Burbank as well as California State Representatives.
Elaborating on this year's Telethon theme, the Chairperson of Armenia Fund, Inc., Maria Mehranian said: "This year our fundraising focus will be on Martakert, the Northern region of Karabagh that has been the hardest hit and is in the most need of revitalization. One of the most urgent needs for the population of Martakert is Healthcare and that is what our focus will be in the US Western Region."
Among other projects such as drinking water, agricultural development and education, this year's Telethon will raise funds for the Martakert Regional Hospital and Ambulance System that will service 20,000 in more than 50 villages in all five sub-regions of Martakert. Ara Aghisian, Vice Chairman of Armenia Fund, Inc., announced upcoming Telethon 2005 events and activities including a November 18 gala dinner at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel featuring the President of Mountainous Karabagh Republic Arkady Ghoukasian and Armenian Foreign Affairs Minister Vartan Oskanian.
Scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, November 24 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM (PST), Telethon 2005 is a 12-hour, live broadcast airing in over 25 cities throughout the United States as well as Europe, South America, the CIS and the Middle East.

YEREVAN (YERKIR) - The North-South highway under construction in Artsakh (Nagorno Artsax) will be completed in two years, according to Naira Melkumian, executive director of the Armenia Fund, Noyan Tapan reported.
The highway will be 160 kilometers long, and 61 kilometers has been already constructed, Melkumian said

Telethon 2005 to Launch November 16
On November 16-18 the second phonethon will be held in Armenia and Artsakh. The representatives of "Hayastan" All Armenian Fund will try to accumulate donations from the small and minor entrepreneurships. They managed to accumulate $15 thousand during the phonethon last year. The main arrangement of "Phonethon 2005" will be held in Los Angeles on November 24. All the financial aid accumulated during the phonethon will be directed to restoration of Mardakert region, NKR.
The European Phonethon will be held on November 17-20, 2005. The organizers managed to accumulate donations estimated at $1 million during the last years’ phonethon. Not only the French Armenians but also many representatives of Armenian communities from all over Europe participated in the phonethon. On November 24, a radiothon will be carried out in Lebanon through the local Armenian language "Vanadzayn" Radio station. The newly opened Russian branch of the fund will participate in "Telethon 2005" for the first time, this year.
From November 10, President Arkady Ghukasian of Nagorno Artsax and Naira Melkoumian, executive director of "Hayastan" All Armenian Fund, left for France and the USA to participate in "Telethon 2005." Armenian foreign minister Vartan Oskanian is also expected to leave for Los Angeles.
The Armenian benefactors from abroad donated over $11,5 million during the last year’s telethon. This year too "Hayastan "All Armenian fund unfolded active advertising of "Artsakh's Revival" program. The donations made in 2004 helped to complete the construction of "North-South" road.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ A phonoton held under the auspices of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund commenced in France November 17. The donations will be spent on development of NKR Martakert region, which suffered the most in the course of the hostilities. Being in Stepanakert the other day Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Director Naira Melkumyan remarked the Fund is launching a new program in Nagorno Artsax named Revival of Artsakh. The program has 3 phases. Martakert region will be restored during the first phase, which provides for solving economic, humanitarian and demographic problems. Specifically, the infrastructure destroyed in the course of the prolonged Azeri-Artsax war, objects of vital importance will be restored. Special attention will be paid to agriculture. A group of scholars from Armenia, France and the US worked on the program in that field. Hadrut region will be restored during the second phase, while the completion of the construction works of the North-South highway with a length of over 160 km is planned during the third one. The NK leader Arkady Ghukasyan, who is in France on these days, stressed the economic, social, psychological, educational and cultural importance of the phonoton in France and the coming telethon in the US for the Artsakh people, reported IA Regnum.

"Hayastan" All Armenian Fund informed that $40.000 was accumulated in Armenia and Nagorno Artsax on November 16-17. $50.000 was accumulated during the telethon in Argentina. The European telethon launched yesterday and will continue till November 20. The Armenians living in Europe have already accumulated over $150.000, which will be spent on restoration of the infrastructure of Mardakert region of NKR.
It’s worth mentioning that the last year’s telethon secured over $11,5 mln. The main arrangement of the telethon will take place on November 24 in Los Angeles.

Then first my home in So. Cal. became worthless. Then my tech stocks Oracle, etc. became worthless. Then my retirement income got eaten up by escalating housing costs. I have to struggle to survive in a Bush-dominated America. Perhaps I can pledge $25.00 and forego eating for a few days.
