can anyone recommend a good book on .NET

to be more specific i'm looking for asp.net

I know programming so i don't need them to teach me hello world, but at the same time i'm not familiar to asp.net. i've looked around at some code but i want a book to have handy that explains what's what, the syntax.
basically i need something that will help me build asp.net apps from the ground up, and will also get into intermediate and advanced stuff

thanks

Cool ... have you taken a look at the MSDN site? .. more specifically, their learn asp.net site?

I noticed they have a couple of books online for free here.

Just saw these on the asp.net website ... I don't know about you but I find things like this much better than books.

Microsoft is pretty cool like that. It's only to their advantage for people to learn to use their stuff so you'll usually find a ton of good info on their sites. smile.gif

ASP.NET programming with (either c# or VB.net) from Microsoft. Excellent book.

Also look at ADO.NET from Microsoft

2 more that are really great especially the second one are
Introducing ASP.NET 2.0
Expert One-on-One Visual Basic .NET Business Objects

few others that I have on my bookshelf that my developers often borrow are

Real World ASP.NET Best Practices
ASP.NET Developer's Cookbook
Programming Microsoft ASP.NET

I thought ASP.net was upto 2.0, haven't heard of 3.0!

try ASP.net unleashed, the most recent publication
it's a great read!

I know OF it smile.gif

I have modified a couple of php scripts but have never written one of my own. It seems straight forward enough.

forget programming hytga, do you really want to become like Sip and Azat?!? there is conclusive scientific evidence that too much exposure to computer programming results in shrinkage.... laugh.gif
