IN SUMMER 2009 A NEW ELEMENT WILL BE ADDED TO MENDELEYEV PERIODIC TABLE

  • “I do not preclude a possibility of adding a new element named Armenia to Mendeleyev periodic table,” Russian academician, RA National Academy of Sciences foreign representative, Scientific Director at Frolov Nuclear Reactors Laboratory in Dubna, Yuri Hovyannesyan told a news conference on collaboration perspectives between Armenia and Armenian Diaspora. “While in Dubna we synthesized 5 of the heaviest elements in Mendeleyev periodic table. Two weeks agro we agreed with Ocridge national laboratory about our intention to synthesize the 6th element (117th element in periodic table), to be named Armenia.” “For this purpose, Ocridge National Laboratory will produce a synthetic element named Berkley. This special element is unique and has a life span of 320 days only. To produce high energy particle beams, necessary equipment and particle accelerator will be prepared in Dubna.” According to Yuri Hovhannesyan, chemical experiments will launch in the beginning of July. “I’ll be in Yerevan on July 22. So lets wait and see.”
