SOUTH CAUCASUS AN IMPORTANT REGION FOR EU

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 19, ARMENPRESS: The European Union's political troika,
namely Sweden's foreign affairs minister Ann Lind, EU secretary general
Javier Solana and EU responsible for foreign links Chris Paten, will arrive
tomorrow in Yerevan on a one-day visit.
During the visit the political troika will meet with Armenia's president
Robert Kocharian, parliament speaker Armen Khachatrian, foreign minister
Vartan Oskanian, head of the parliament foreign relations committee, as well
as the representatives of the parliamentary groups and fractions. A meeting
with the reporters is anticipated as well.
During a press conference, held at the Greece's Embassy, the ambassadors and
envoys of Italy, Great Britain, Greece, Germany and France underlined the
fact that being one of the biggest donors in the region, the EU aims at
raising its political reputation here. As it was mentioned, during the last9
years the EU has provided more relief to the Trans-Caucasus countries (about
1 billion EURO) than the USA or Russia.
"The EU's activities are directed to the process of development of democracy
and economy, prevention of conflicts", particularly stated Greece's
ambassador to Armenia Panayotis Zographos.
The EU representatives will leave Yerevan for Tbilisi February 21, the same
day they will leave for Baku.
