ԿՈՂՈՊՈՒՏ
Loot
In another thread ;
http://hyeforum.com/...showtopic=35594
We saw that the root word for գող/thief is in fact “secretly/furtive”. Consider the word գաղտագողի /furtively.

Definition of FURTIVE
1 a : done by stealth : surreptitious b : expressive of stealth : sly
2 : obtained underhandedly : stolen — fur·tive·ly adverb — fur·tive·ness noun .
Origin of FURTIVE
French or Latin; French furtif, from Latin furtivus, from furtum theft, from fur thief, from or akin to Greek phōr thief; akin to Greek pherein to carry
First Known Use: 1612
Related to FURTIVE
Synonyms: sneaky, shady, shifty, slippery, sly, sneaking, stealthy

A bonus.
Una Furtiva Lacrima . A Secret Teardrop. From L’elisir d’Amore, Love Potion by Donizetti.
Italian opera, L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti.
Pavarotti;

From the Armatakan;

ԿՈՂՈՊՈՒՏ = թալան** յափշտակուած եւ աւար առնուածբաներ

He also invokes the Greek counterpart. ”klepto”.
Some synonyms.

ԿՈՂՈՊՈՒՏ- Աւար(Ավար), թալան, գողութիւն, կապուտ, ապուռ

We will see what աւար/avar means.

** This is a surprise, very atypical of Ajarian to invoke a turkic word. Not only that, he has a whole separate monograph about it. Anyone here familiar with the so called “armenian” family name “talanian”?
This is eerie. See the similarity;

Klepto(from Greek: κλέπτειν, kleptein, "to steal",

It is from Hindi and Urdu?
And see, “illicit gains by public officials” Is this too close for comfort?
In the English we call that “bribery/կաշառակերում/ կրծոն”. Chewing- doggy bone?
Sadly, in Armenia that practice seems to be not’ illicit” but “licit-legal, law of the land”.
See “doggy bone/կրծոն here;
