Orhnerg/Օրհներգ/Anthem.

Anthem; From the Greek to mean “a song of blessing.
Is Orhnerg a direct translation?

i think that the music of Khachaturian is the best choice and i'm sure that they will find the appropriate lyrics to go with the music .

Click below and hear AK’s majestic composition.

http://www.hymn.ru/1...s/index-en.html
If we handle it properly the above masterpiece may be as universally popular and recognizable as the Saber Dance. Perhaps we should initiate a contest as to which National Anthem (music) is the most majestic , even against the Star Spangled Banner.
Now we come to the words.
There is an unwritten law in the US that no name be mentioned in official texts at least a hundred years hence. This law was debated when in an overnight many national landmarks were renamed pursuant to the assassination of JFK. When even Cape Canaveral in Florida was erroneously interpreted to be renamed as Cape Kennedy, when only the NASA center was renamed as Kennedy Center. .Even in Beirut , when overnight , the streets signs at Clemanceau Ave. were taken down and renamed Kennedy Ave.. And, subsequently, when emotions subsided, the old signs were re-erected.
When will the Armenians learn to use generic and timeless words?
Sovetakan azat ashkhrh Hayastan?
Leninn anmah mer hourn anshej parkevets?

The text I am looking at has already expunged Stalin, but previous texts have;

Stalin@ mets kortsanvuyts mex prkets.
Yeah, Yeah, Lenin, Stalin, Marks and Engels, Ivan the Terrible, Shah Abbas, Sultan Hamid, Enver and Talaat!!
WORDS!!!??
To illustrate how words change consider the words of Mer Hayrenik as it was originally written;by Mikael Nalpantian.
4th stanza;
“Aha im gorts, aha drosh,
Shut dzi hetsir qaji pes,
Gna prkel mer hayreniq
Paterazmi varr handes.

And now, that same stanza from an undated Dashnak publication;
Nayir nra, ereq guynov
Nouirakan mer nshan,
Togh poghpoghi dem tsunami
Togh kortsani Tajkastan.

Why do we invoke other countries in our National Anthem?

Many may not have liked the last line, and they substituted it with “Togh misht apri Hayastan”.
And how about “Mer Hayrenik TSHVAR ANTER replaced by MER HAYRENIK AZAT ANKAKH.
Do words change?
Of course! When they are written by amateurs inspired by the emotions of the day.
Tunes?
They can be eternal except the likes of that Mickey Mouse tune Mer Hayrenik, when we did not have the likes of AK, a world renowned composer and had to borrow from an Italian nursery rhyme.

In conclusion.
WORDS HAVE TO BE CHOSEN TO LAST FOR CENTURIES AND MILLENNIA rather than reflect the prevailing transient and dire conditions, without mentioning our present friends and foes who change constantly from one day, from one century to another..

Yes.
By all means let’s do that.
Except avoid using names of people, lands and cities, as we have seen today's heroes may become villains of tomorrow and visa versa..
Not the names of “cities that we still have” but aim for thousands of years that some of the names of persons may turn into a hayhoyanq and names of cities that may be remanded to antiquity.
Make it as generic and open as can be that will survive whoever today’s hero may be and whichever city may be our orran. What if some years from now, once again Van, Armavir, Erwandashat, Artashat, Tigranakert, Vagharshapat, Dwin, Bakaran, Shrirakavan, Kars, Ani, Eerewan (did I list all 12 in chronological order?), become our Capital City/Mayraqaghaq?
Who know if a thousand years from now Marash, Zeytoun, Tiflis, Tabriz, Musaneri Ler or even Angora becomes the capital of Armenia? Yet we should be able to sing the same ANTHEM without having to change the words and names.
HOW??

Armenians always seem to be unsatisfied with what they have. Let's stick with "Mer Hayrenik."

Where did I read that Armenians invented democracy?
Nowhere. I would not be surprised if some one would claim it. Why not? After all, did not we invent everything else. Except that, after we invented it we let it turn inyo cacocracy, a discipline(NOT!!) of cacophony Yes, yes I know, I am not altogether innocent in that cacophony. Men mi beran, men mi dzayn/aghmuk.
An anecdote. In fact it is a fusion of two anecdotes but we get the idea.
A Gavaretsi couple are traveling to Yerevan. It is a beautiful clear day. Suddenly, they see this dark shadow passing over. They look up, they see this big black thing flying over. The man says; “Artsiv e “, the woman says; “Voch, ets e” (ets-ayts-goat). The man says; Don’t you see? Unlike a goat it flies The woman; “Trchi ne el ets e” Artziv e- ets e….. They decide to let it ride until they reach Yerevan and ask the jury-academicians. By this time they reach the Araratian Plain, the wheat is ripe . The man begins to sing Komitas’ “Huntsq k@ Zhoghven Mangaghov”. The woman pipes in, as a woman the only cutting tool she knows; “Inch mangaghov? Mkratov! Mangaghov… Mkratov….!! They are on a bridge over Hraztan. The man gets so angry thet he pushes her over. She falls into the river, she cannot swim, she is caught in the rapids, she is fast sinking, yet she manages to extend her arm over the ripples and with her index and middle fingers makes the motion of the scissors.
Trchi the voch ets e.
Huntsq k@ zhoghven mkratov.

Regardless, those “miserable and orphaned” words were written almost two hundred years ago, when we were “miserable and orphaned” indeed. Those words have been used to, at times to lament our “miserable and orphaned” reality, but more so as a protest against certain regimes. More so during the last eighty some years of (Soviet) “miserable and orphaned” era. Shall we continue to sing that ‘miserable” (both lyrical and musical) excuse of an anthem?
Of course!

There are those elements, both inside and out that that “piece of rock” is still “miserable and orphaned”. Only if you say so!
They may all have a point. As long as our Homeland is governed by the cabal of the likes of TerPetrosian and Kocharian it may still be “tshvar anter”. Elect me the Sultan of Ermenistan, and will make it parkavach/harust ev tiravor!!
Shall we preserve and maintain that “miserable and orphaned” Mickey mouse kindergarten rhyme (both , linguistically and musically), so that, some day when we once again become “tshvar anter”, we will not have to compose another “tshvar” words (NOT!!) and music (NOT!!)
The Russian Duma did not bat an eye. It took them two minutes to decide what their “new” anthem would be.
What is our problem?
Oh! I forgot.
We invented democracy-cacocracy!
We waited over two hundred years to have an independent country. We can wait another two thousand years to decide what her anthem will be. The way prevailing cacophony goes… Mot e Garun@, Shutove k@ hasni

Personally. Every time that poor/tshvar excuse of an anthem is sung/played I wish I could climb under a rock and continue living(?) my “tshvar anter” existence.
Let us continue TALKING about the subject until once again we are “TSHVAR ANTER”.
Below, a suggestion to how get rid of that disgustingly non-poem, and esthetically ridiculous non-music, and replace it with that glorious music by one of our cultural “gods”, Aram K.
Note. I did not know this work of Gevorg Emin, Also note that it was written in 1992.
Why do we let every Tom “Dick”** and Hairy input their “inputs” into the matter?
Democracy cacocracy indeed!!
** Is it not, are they not “kleer”?

Search for a National Anthem
Let us try and sing the below words to that gloriously majestic tune of Aram K.
AZG Nov. 7, 2006

1992 թ.

Yes!
Of course!
We must wait another thousand years until the likes of Shnorhali and Narekatsi come up with another Lamentatious/Voghpergakan words.
What is wrong with mine and your words, or for that matter Emin’s. Must we always have lamentatiouss/voghperkakan/“tshvar anter words?
We can wait until the blasted “second coming” to have a National Anthem, when we can sing “Mer Anhaght Hisus Qristos, Mer tshnamyats votnagokh”.

No offence, Gevorg, but these lyrics are horrible for Aram Khachatourian's composition.
