Karabakh war veteran says 1994 ceasefire agreement ‘was disgusting’

In 1994, Armenia signed a disgusting agreement on ceasefire, the retired head of Armenia's armed forces, Artsakh war veteran, lieutenant-general Norat Ter-Grigoryants, told the reporters on Monday, before the launch of the 6th Pan-Armenian Armenia-Diaspora conference.

According to Mr. Ter-Grigoryants, Armenia should have headed for capitulation, demanding border clarification, since only Armenia adheres to the 1994 ceasefire agreement (on Karabakh war), while Azerbaijan keeps breaching it.

“It is necessary to hold talks to annul the treaty of 5 July 1921, when the Russian Bolsheviks forcibly annexed Karabakh to Azerbaijan. The things fall into place in that case,” the lieutenant-general highlighted.

The former military noted that Russia complains about the illegal annexation of the Crimea to Ukraine when that very country illegally handed Karabakh to Azerbaijan.

Norat Ter-Grigoryants also drew attention on the fact that the international community does not punish Russia for supplying arms to Azerbaijan, whereas Azerbaijan continues violating the ceasefire.

“Azerbaijan must stop breaching the ceasefire, however Russia continues selling arms to that country when Armenia is Russia’s ally. I am against that process, especially when Mr. Putin has recently announced that the conflicting states should not be supplied with arms, but they continue arming Azerbaijan. And what kind of state is Azerbaijan? It is an aggressive, terrorist country,” he concluded.
