sireli arpa, i have one of those surnames
aslanyan. what could i do? change it? almost impossible
This is a whole another subject. We can go there if you will.
In the meantime;
It is as simple as ABC.
We know that “aslan” means lion/aryuts in that f***en language. Many Armenians have that surname, just as “Kaplan”-ian/ tiger, even if nowadays many of the “kaplans” are Jewish Turks? Or Turkish Jews , if you will.
You have many easy choices.
You may choose to go back to pre-Vardanants and adopt a name like Khorkhoruni or Khorenatsi, or translate it to Aryutsian.
No!
That will be too cumbersome, internationally speking.
Just as I have preached about to not try and translate what our Turkish surnames would be in Armenian, like Demirji(oghlu)-ian to Darbin-ian(I'm gonna get that idiot that goes by Stepan Demijian, (Some of us may have had the deccy to covert it to "Darbinian, or "Tarpinian", in that MQ Istanbulian transliteration) who contends for the prsidency of Armenia, I would much rather have someone with a surname like Demir-el than Demirji-oghlu-ian, invent a new name for themselves before they run for the presidency of Armenia, unles they think Armenia is a province of of Demirel's "homeland" .
Forgive me! I go in a tizzy, and I see sparkles when I see Armenians with Turkish surnames.
Who is forcing us???
And as I have said befoire, come here and talk about the Genocide.
Who is comitting genocide? Us or them?
In your case would be as easy as ABC.
Above we see that your surname is based on “aslan/lion/aryuts” and you are a child of that leontine dynasty, i.e, a lion’s cub. You know that we have a word for that- “koryun/
կորիւն”.
Need I say more!!
Use your proverbial “Armenian genius“ to liberate yourself from that anitsyal Ottoman bondage.
How about “Gorunian/Korunian”?? Or any variations thereof?
BTW. As we were surveying Masis Ler at Khor Virab, an Armenian Kurd who told me his name, Assad was a variation of Azat(maybe?)..Are you ready?.. was in fact the Arabic word for lion(asad). He was so relieved, once a gain feeling like a lion, waiting to liberate that “den of hyenas“.
, did I say “
hye-na-s”? Make that ,“
turk-e-na-s”
