Two new pages have been recently added to VirtualANI:

The Ani Stone Quarries: will Armenia turn Ani into an industrial wasteland? An account of the stone quarry that has blighted the landscape around the Ani ruins, with photographs. Plus a selection of media reports and responses to the quarry.

A description, with photographs, of the ruins of the 10th century monastery of Saint George of Goms, on the shores of Lake Van in eastern Turkey.

Another new page has been added to VirtualANI:

THE STEREOSCOPIC
PHOTOGRAPHS OF ANI

http://www.virtualan...o.uk/kurkdjian/

O. Kurkdjian was an Armenian photographer based in Yerevan during the 19th century. He produced a series of stereoscopic photographs (stereographs) of Ani. It is not known exactly when the photographs were taken: sometime between 1875 and 1880, but probably after the Kars district (including Ani) was incorporated into the Russian Empire (i.e. after 1877).
