Thomas Corwin (1794 – 1865) was the 15th Governor of Ohio and the 20th Secretary of the Treasury. He also served as the United States Ambassador to Mexico.

Corwin was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky and was a descendant of Armenians of Hungary. Corwin's father, Judge Mattias Corwin, served eleven times in the Ohio Legislature. Corwin's cousin Moses Bledso Corwin was a United States Congressman from Ohio, and his nephew Franklin Corwin was a United States Congressman from Illinois.

In 1831, Corwin became a member of the House of Representatives and in 1840, Corwin was nominated, elected and served for two years as the governor of Ohio

Corwin is remembered chiefly as an orator. His speeches both on the stump and in debate were examples of remarkable eloquence. He is perhaps also remembered for his sponsorship during the 36th Congress in early 1861 of the proposed Corwin amendment to the United States Constitution, which was a last ditch effort on his part to avoid the Civil War
