See how Sevak uses the word "gavur". Also see how Ali above confesses that he only uses the word to mean "european". So be it.Let us be the civilized "european gavurs" and they be the savage murderers.
As indicated here http://hyeforum.com/...=0
See what Sevak writes in the introduction of his ՍԱՅԱԹ ՆՈՎԱՅԻ ՍՏԵՂԾԱԳՈՐԾՈՒԹԻՒՆԸ, paraphrasing from Leo’s Հայոց Պատմութիւն

Turkish State Minister calls Christians “gavur” (unfaithful)
October 15, 2010 | 11:19
The Chair of the Syriac Culture Association Yuhanna Aktas stated Turkish State Minister Faruk Celik should apologize to Christians for calling them gavur (an offensive ethnic slur used by Muslims in Turkey to describe all who are non-Muslim) in one of the TV programs several days ago.
Aktas sharply criticized Turkish Minister’s cynical statement, saying Celik insulted Christianity and should apologize to all Christians in Turkey.
This irresponsible statement proves what the Turkish Minister thinks of non-Muslims in Turkey. We fiercely criticize his attitude,” Aktas stressed.

arpa,

the word "gavur", though sounding like "kafir" actually comes from old persian "gabr" which meant a zoroastrian priest (or something zoroastrian). i am not for calling people "infidel" or anything, especially seriously in a derogatory sense, and i don't condone such usage.
cheers,

At the risk of reviving a dead subject, (pun intended), digging old graves, if you will. My interest was piqued when I saw that Sebastia was originally named…. Another subject.
The town was originally called Gabira i.e . home of the underground gods.
http://en.wikipedia....of_Zoroastrians

In the early 16th century the great Safavid king, Shah Abbas settled a number of Zoroastrians in a suburb of his new capital, Isfahan. The suburb of Isfahan where the Zoroastrians lived was called Gabr-Mahal, Gabristan or Gabrabad, derived from the word Gabr.[citation needed] Europeans who visited his court left accounts of the 'Gabars' or 'Gabrs', (an insulting term used for Zoroastrians by the Muslims[citation needed]), agree on the poverty and simplicity of their lives.[68] Fearing desecration by Muslims, Zoroastrians hid the sacred fires, and conversed in a newly invented dialect called Dari.[citation needed] Later Safavid kings were not as tolerant as Shah Ababas. Al-Majlisi persuaded Shah Husayn (1688–1728 CE) to decree the forcible conversion of Zoroastrians,[69] those who refused were killed.[citation needed]

From the 16th to 18th century Zoroastrians like Jews and Christians suffered greatly at the hands of Safavid rulers. Zealous Shiites Safavid had oppressive policies with respect to religious minorities and have one of the worst records with respect to human rights in Iran. Shah Abbas the Great brought many Zoroastrians called ‘Gaur’ or ‘Gabr’ since the Muslim conquest (meaning infidels) into Isfahan to use as labor. The European traveler Pietro della Valle visiting the site reported that the Gaurs were settled in a suburb containing some 3000 houses, all low single storied, without any adornment, suited to the poverty of those who inhabit them.

I thought maybe James Russell in his book Zoroastrianism in Armenia would have spoken about Gabt-Zorostrian priest. He does not, not directly anyway, but see what he says about Gabriel, the messenger angel, and the Armenian word Grogh.

How about the verb "geber" in that language?

Yes Dear Johannes. I know that word , gebertmek, that means to kill an animal, like the Armenian satak/satketsnel. Like in shan satak.
However, see where we spoke about Satak/Zatak/Zatik.
I have a video where this furkish lakot says- Biz gavurlari geberttik, anasini siktik, bu daghdan (Zeitun) ashaghi attik.
