The question is a philosophical one without a factual answer. Perhaps for me, simply put, it's sex and strong friendship combined. Although I think the most important thing in a relationship is laughter (just as a side note).

Love is not just sex, neither it is just silence, nore it is both combined. sex comees because of love not with it, silence is boring and breaks the love. Actuall meanin of love is to be able to share you rinternal feelings and emotions with someone who is not inside you and make them part of you. without having to worry about what he/she might or might not like, and it has to be 2 sided for it to succeed. in order to share your feelings you have to beleive that the person you are sharing with deserves your honesty because you should not expect anything in return exept the same things you look for in them.

Here's what I think. By the way, I happen to agree in most parts with Anileve's and Sarsher's answers.

First the physical attraction or the intellectual attraction developes and sometimes hopefully both, and yes sex comes because of love then it becomes complete. Combining the physical with the spiritual. Open, sincere and honest communication between two sexes in a relationship is a must, for without it, it may fail. Laughter and humour is an integral part of any relationship. It breaks the barriers between two people, it makes them ease their discomforts or it makes them forget their unhappiness or disagreements for that moment. In a relationship, a lot of satisfying sex is very important and beneficial. Forgivingness is also important when the foes in a given relationship haven't gone too far to be mended.

I think when Edward said silence; he meant for a woman that nags or discusses too much, then it becomes annoying to any man. Given the fact that the person in a given relationship must feel themselves through and abstain from talking excessively or nagging their spouse at all, especially when their spouse is not so much into talking. Then obviously they would be killing the relationship. But again, if there are any problems, then the two must talk in a civil and a professional manner and resolve their issues, that's a given.

Yes, I think a lot of satisfying sex and hugging each other a great deal is very important in a relationship.

Eventually the more deeper love develops in a marriage or in a relationship between a man and a woman.

I will also add to my previous post that to have a more successful and a long term loving relationship, it is much better to be more agreeable with your spouse or loved one than not. Bearing in mind that first being on the other person's term and corner is imperative. You must first agree and feel how your partner views life, and then after agreeing with him or her you can introduce your views bit by bit; which requires time, patience and unconditional love.
