With the fall of Saddam Hussein, Iraq has become Shiite-controlled and a client-state of Iran where 89% are Shiites. Syria is ruled by a Shiite sect. And Bahrain, with its 65% Shiite population, is a threat at the heart of the Saudi Kingdom. All of this is making the Saudis feel like being cornered. Add a restless Shiite minority in Saudi Arabia, and economic troubles and problems among the Saudi princes then you get the picture why the Saudi rulers are feeling restless.

Why the Shiites are a threat to them? Looking into the history of the Shia-Sunni is looking at the blood feud between these two main branches of Islam. Consideration should be taken that the Iranian mostly are Aryans racially while the other side belong mostly to the Semite race. Both those two races have cultural differences and different histories.

It is known that Iran had decades-long threat to overthrow the Saudi regime. And lately, there has been this Shiite prophecy that the Mahdi would come when King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia dies. So it looks as if Iran would like to hasten this process along.

Saudi Arabia is funding the rebellion in Syria and sending men, arms and dollars in order to topple the Shiite rule and replace it with a Sunni rule with the blessing of the West and Turkey (and perhaps that of Israel). That's why Saudi leaders are praying that an Israel’s strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities would come sooner than expected. There is no doubt that S.A. has increased ties with Israel over concerns about Iran. Israel is now able to make deals with S.A. and other Gulf states.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states are critical money-weapon-terrorists pipelines to Syrian rebels in a proxy war with Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah over Syria. While Egypt, that depends on Gulf money as lifeline and seeks now to rebuild the broken ties with Israel, is taking a neutral position over Syria, and the Gulf states want Egypt to remain in that position as any tilt or shift of Egypt toward actual help to Syria's Bashar Assad will change the current situation in the conflict.

During John Kerry's visit to Riyadh this month the Saudi leaders conveyed this message to him: "Don't trust Tehran, tighten sanctions, ask for a complete nuclear concession from Iran". The same thing that Israel has been asking for a long time. "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
