Considering that many forumers here are also regular cinema goers I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread, so basically anyone who has seen a movie at the cinema recently could say a few words about it and give a rating out of 10:

A score of ## implies:

9-10 - A must see!
7-9 - Recommended viewing
5-7 - Above average, though might want to wait for it to come out on video
3-5 - Below average, nothing special really, though it wasnt bad
1-3 - Pretty bad, dont bother or only watch if stoned!
0-1 - F%$#@% $%@%$@ %&$%^$%& &^$& etc.

And now - the first review:

Movie: Matrix Reloaded
Score: 7.5

Yeah, saw it yesterday. Its basically a must see if your into special effects (probably better than I have seen anywhere else!) and/or are a fan of the original. The plot and the dialogue though are nowhere near as deep and thought provoking as the original (they try very hard - LOL), and the dialogue can be downright terrible at times. Its also a pretty good 'couples movie' thanks to the relationship between Neo and Trinity. So go see it if you want more of the original, otherwise not much point really.

Bend it Like Beckham

7

I just got back from the movies where I went to see a what I thought was going to be a dumb film(chick flick) called "Bend it Like Beckham". To my surprise I found the film to be really great.

Azat, since Accel's scale is completely out of order, which 7 is that? 5-7 or 7-9?

Azat,

I havnt seen it, but its got indians in it, and not just that its got indian girls trying to play soccer! - LOL - and the associated social and acceptance garbage, in my mind this alone warrants an initial deduction of 5 points :D

Harut,

Like a typical computer geek everything must be fully defined and you have no imagination if it isnt! ;) Yes 7 is included in both 5-7 and 7-9. Now this may mean that it is both: above average and recommended, or a little more than above average but not quite recommended  - you choose.

PS, I got finals comin up in a month guys so Im not gonna be around much (or I will try not to be around much  ), and two days after the last exam its off to Armenia for a month (havnt been in 10.5 years), Im so excited! Will post my impressions when I return B)

I agree that the scale leaves much to be interpreted. But then again, it's probably much more clear than 'two thumbs up'. ;)

Good luck on your exams accel, and have a safe trip! :):)

I am not sure why I wanted to see this movie, but it was lame. few funny moments, but you have seen almost all the funny moments in the commercials.

LŽAuberge Espagnole - European Pudding
7

French allegory about Europe. A young French guy goes to Barcelona for his masters and rooms up with people from other European countries. Pleasant, often funny. Big hit in France and also got a few prizes. Was presented in Cannes last year.

The Run

10/10

Basically a promo shoot of the new Nissan Zed blasting around the streets of Prague at dawn. First time I saw it was on the big screen, before the Matrix, and it was AWESOME. You can watch it here. Caution: That meaty exhaust note causes excessive salivation!

Time to resurect thread I think....i seen a bunch of movies since last time, but will only review the film I saw last:

Jason vs Freddy (or is it the other way round - LOL)

yeah we were originally going to see KillBill (new Tarantino flik), but one of the guys is a big 80s horror fan so Jason v Freddy it was.....

Pros: not scary, eye candy (in form of hot blondie with nice rack :D ), Jasons machete, some hillarious scenes and one-liners.

Cons: not scary, Freddys face and clown outfit, (very) poor acting, childish plot

Verdict: mind-numbing gore-a-thon

2 starts

OK - here are a few (recent ones)

Gangs of New York (just saw it last night) - 8.7 - DVD

I thought it very engaging/intresting - particualry considering the (true, believe it or not) historical aspects of the film. My wife thought the violence was gratuitous...

Matrix Reloaded (saw last week) - 8.5 - DVD

Action was awesome - whole concept is cool. I particualry liked the highway/freeway chase/fight scenes...and of course the kiss with the Mergovian's (?) - wife...wish i were Neo in that one! LOL. Agree with Accels comments on the diologue & plot & stuff (still great flick!) and other scenes (Zion stuff a bit weak IMO) were lacking a bit...

With Friends Like Henry (in French with subtitles) - 7.1 - cable

Interesting little subtly done psycho murder story...done pretty well...engaging...but pretty basic

Pirates of the Carribean - 8.0 - theater

Fun movie with nice special effects - good action...and of course a rackish Johnny Depp to get the ladies going!

Kill Bill 9.0

This rating scale for me is based on appreciation of what the movie was...

A quality replica of cheesy kung fu/karate flicks from the early 80s. Viewed in that light it's great. Over the top violence, kitchy lines, great fights and cool characters.
Cool use of costuming and color schemes throughout the flick as well.

Yeah Sev-mard - can't wait to see Kill Bill - i think it is going to be thoroughly entertaining (love Tarentino's stuff...for the most part...and of course he's named a major character after me [in Pulp Finction] ...LOL

So do you think it woudl be OK to bring along fairly young kids - or too violent/bloody etc (I know Qt loves the gore...)
