Armenia has made some advanced in banning public smoking but still you are bound to smell like an ash-tray if you go places, like pubs for example, from second-hand smoke; and still many Armenians will disrecard and ignore the banning laws. But in Russia they are going tough starting of today June 1. Smoker Armenians visiting Russia let them beware, the fine is $48 for smoking in public places, like the airports, in Russia.

Moreover non-smoke Armenia can save some 10,000-20,000 lives annually and millions in health cost from illnessess resulting from exposure to second-hand smoke. Smoking is not any more a macho thing to do; it's stupid and cowardly since the smoker not only harm himself but others who are not doing it.

MOSCOW, June 1, 2013 (RIA Novosti) - An anti-smoking law that bans smoking in public, including in government buildings, healthcare and educational facilities, cultural sites, sports stadiums and on public transport, comes into force in Russia on Saturday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the ban into the law on February 25. The law comes into force on June 1, 2013, though some of its provisions, including a total ban on smoking in restaurants, trains and hotels, will only come into effect one year later.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in April that the new legislation banning smoking in public places could save up to 200,000 lives annually in Russia, which has some of the highest rates of smoking in the world.
The legislation also imposes a total ban on tobacco advertising. Tobacco companies will be barred from holding promotional prize draws and sponsoring public events and competitions.
The bill also prohibits display of tobacco products in shops. Sales in retail kiosks will be banned from June 2014, and minimum prices will be set for cigarettes, which currently cost from just 40 rubles ($1.30) a pack.
Last month, the Russian parliament’s lower house, the State Duma, began debating a bill imposing fines of up to 1,500 rubles (about $48) for smoking in public places.

The divide between the West (USA & Europe) and the East (Russia, China, Japan) is becoming bigger & deeper with each passing day.

The West is galloping toward Globalism and embracing globalization while the East in the past 30 years started to gravitate toward nationalism and to look for being national entities of their own.

The West is expanding its citizen's range by taking-in people from all over the world in free for all immigration policies, while the East is consolidating & strengthening its native population with one language, one culture and one aspirations for the people.

USA is feeding toxic food to its citizens by GMO and other means while the East is forbidding toxic GMO food to enter their land and we see lately that Russia, China & Japan have banned US wheat from entering their lands because of contamination and toxicity of US wheat.

We see morality in the West going down & down while the East is standing for what is moral & decent. Just today Russia banned adoption of children by same sex marriages. As to the Riot of pussies band, had that blasphemous riot happened in the West those pussies had been awarded Noble prices of freedom and not put in jail like Russia did. In few words the pagan West is becoming more pagan with each passing day while the East is embracing the 10 commandments of God.

Eventually this divide between the West & East will result in a clash between the two, a big war of WW3, since they will be totally incompatible with each other. While the East is working hard to eradicate and punish corruption in their land we see the West becoming more corrupt with each passing day and corruption is being encouraged and looked upon as being the vogue.

The turn of the East will come to replace the powers in the West in governing the world. There is going to be a unipolar world run by China & Russia and not by USA & Europe in the next 20 or 50 years or so.

Russia, China Should Think Of National Identity - Scientists
SHANGHAI, June 1 (RIA Novosti) – In the era of globalization, the task of defining national identity has become more important for Russia and China than some 30 years ago, scientists said at a roundtable held by the Valdai International Discussion Club on Saturday.
The roundtable discussion, "National Identity in the Era of Globalization: the Experience of China, Russia and etc.," has been organized by the Valdai Club and the School of Advanced International and Area Studies, East China Normal University.
The discussion was attended by Feng Shaolei, Dean of the School of Advanced International and Area Studies and Member of the Valdai Discussion Club Advisory Board, and Pavel Andreev, Executive Director of Valdai Club Foundation and RIA Novosti.
“The issue of defining identity is important both for Russia and China which have been in the process of transformation during the recent years. In this sense, the issue is more important today than 20 or 30 years ago, the time before the reforms,” Shaolei told RIA Novosti, commenting on the discussion.
“It is a very important and topical issue, linked to the processes of transformations and reforms and changes within the society,” Shaolei said adding that the discussion could continue in Moscow at a session dedicated to the club’s 10th anniversary.
The Valdai Club was established in 2004 and named after the location of its first meeting – the city of Veliky Novgorod near Lake Valdai. The Club’s mission is to foster a dialogue between Russian and foreign scientists, politicians and journalists and to provide a scholarly analysis of political, economic and social processes in Russia and the world. Its conferences are held in Russia and outside it and are attended by dozens of political analysts from many countries. Since the Club’s inception, its meetings have been attended by more than 600 representatives of the international academic community from 44 countries.

Ads banned because smoking killing people in Armenia

YEREVAN, November 21. 2013/ ARKA /. The Armenian government has approved today a string of changes to the law on advertisement toughening further restrictions on advertisement of tobacco and tobacco products.

Health minister Derenik Dumanyan said television, radio, electronic and print media are banned from advertising tobacco products. He said the approved changes prohibit outdoor advertisement of tobacco products as well as their advertisement in shops and catering facilities.

He said tobacco products can be advertised only in special editions, available only in tobacco shops, where sale assistants can advertise cigarettes both verbally and visually. But along with it they must also provide information about the dangers of smoking.

Prime minister Tigran Sargsyan said smoking is a serious problem in Armenia killing hundreds of people each year. He urged NGOs to step up their voice against smoking.

There are two international days dedicated to the fight against smoking. On May 31 every year, the world observes World No Tobacco Day that is promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO). The objective is to reduce tobacco consumption which can lead to deadly diseases like cancer and early death.

Every year, the third Thursday of November is marked globally as smokeout day. Smokers are urged to use the date to make a plan to quit, or plan in advance and then quit smoking that day.

Against the cancer stick: Armenian government set to step up anti-smoking campaign

 

The Armenian government is going to toughen anti-smoking measures by adopting amendments to the law on advertisement which will stipulate the further restrictions on advertisement of tobacco and tobacco products.

Under the existing law, the ads of tobacco products are prohibited by television, radio, electronic and print media.
During the government session on Thursday, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan accused the non-governmental organizations of inadequate efforts in fighting against smoking, despite the high rate of death caused by smoking in Armenia. He said smoking is a serious problem for the society and urged the organizations to make their voice heard.

“We hear the concerns of environmental activists every day, while if we compare the risks, the harm from smoking is much more serious. But they don’t raise concerns in this regard,” said the prime minister.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Defense Ministry has also started an anti- smoking campaign. Last week, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan instructed the ministry to set up a working group to develop a program on combating smoking in Armenia’s armed forces.
