Private & Secure Web Search: Zeekly (beta)
http://www.zeekly.com/
Most internet search engines store your personal search data (your computer IP numbers address, search terms you enter, and sites you visit) to profile you as a consumer and improve advertising programs and services they offer you. Zeekly has chosen not to store this data (commonly referred to as metadata) in this manner.

How can they claim to be private and secure when they don't even use SSL? If you search there say at a coffee shop or something, everyone around will be able to see what you do.  Note that Google for example uses SSL by default (note the "https" in your browser address bar).

I was reading some stories on the internet tonight and came across this blog post, so I thought I'd pop in and comment. A few days after these posts above, Zeekly was converted over to run on 2048-bit SSL encryption. We agree with you that SSL is an integral part of a secure & private search engine, and this was part of our original road map. When we got up to full traffic, it took us several weeks to completely tweak everything where the servers could process the requests using SSL and would not be running slow for users. We did finally find the right balance, and everything is running great now.

We are committed to what was posted above about storing data. Zeekly does not store search history on users and will never do it. The sole reason we started the site was because of these privacy issues that leaked to the media in June about the NSA programs. So, not storing search history on users combined with SSL encryption is a good start on keeping what you do on the internet private. If you ever have any questions for us, you can always send an email to support@zeekly.com, and we will respond promptly.

Regards,
