Show me an Armenian who says "I am proud to be an Armenian!" and I will show you an Armenian with a fully belly.
A hungry Armenian will cross the border and work for a Turk for less than minimum wage to provide for his family, and you will never hear him bragging about his Armenianism.
To provide for her children, a decent Armenian mother will engage in prostitution and you will not hear her deliver speeches on patriotism.
As a matter of fact, I have never heard an honest Armenian say "I am proud of being an Armenian!" because, an honest Armenian, like all honest men around the world regardless of nationality, will be too busy trying to survive in a crooked world to have any time for boasting.
An honest man does not brag; but loud-mouth charlatans, crooks, phonies and bloodsuckers do.

Dear Ara,

Needless to say that I appreciate most of your writings, but lets suppose that a 15 years old schoolboy, who is doing excellent in school, who is very athletic and gifted sportsman, who is promising chessplayer and who is engaged in dozen other activities and thus is regarded as a honest person, who says "I'm proud of being Armenian", would you consider him a loud-mouth charlatan, crook, phony or bloodsucker?

Be positive Ara, Be positive. That is what we need most.
To search for perfection is all too well, but to look for heaven is to live in hell.

Regarding mothers crossing the border to work for turks...they come here, look after elderly people are paid US$ 250-300 a month 2.5-3 times the minimum wage in Turkey. And occasionally they go for cleaning and this sort of jobs. I haven't seen any armenian prositute yet in Istanbul. Although there must be some undoubtedly.

How many times have you been in Istabul Ara? and have you been recently? How many times have you discussed with turks on the armenian question here in Turkey. How well do you know them?

I am sure the info you get is a second hand one...one cannot reason and write with this sort of info. Come here and feel them

I like most of the writings emanating from your pen, however at times I find some of them difficult to understand. Armenians have persevered and survived on account of an inner nationalism and love for their race, kith and kin, language, music, art, untold challenges in staying alive as a community, nation, in a sea of hostile foreigners. Based on some of your writings, it seems fine if we forget everything about ourselves and our heritage and blend with the amorphous masses surrounding us.
An armenian realizes his armenianess when he becomes conscious of his racial difference vis a vis other groups in his living space. Nationalism is not dead and is not a dead end, is the vital force that keeps armenians alive ( or for that matter other races and nation; what is a jew without his hooked nose and his jewishness ?).
A perversion of nationalism is an altogether different matter and it should be recognized as a perverse tendency and not to be confused with nationalism per se. The armenian race if it is to survive in the future it will be thanks to its indomitable nationalism and racial consciousness. Otherwise jump on the bandwagon of gollywogs and drive onto the horizon into oblivion and racial nihilism. And thus the Turk would have triumphed after his failure of 1915.
