"AT Metals" mining company has obtained two new substances from the
alloys of the Armenian metals - Femir and Spinker, which neutralizes
the hazard of radioactive wastes. The company made a statement
about this on 17 December during the presentation of technology at
"Decontamination of Radioactive Wastes in the Republic of Armenia".

"This material is not radioactive: it's ordinary poly-metallic dust
called Femir. As soon as it's mixed with the radioactive waste, at
that time the molecule is included in another molecule and a matrix
is created, which is the most stable and has the most protective force.

Radiation disappears due to the matrix," said Hayk Mezhlumyan, CEO at
"AT Metals" mining company.

Company Engineer-Technologist Vram Khachatryan said, "It's also a
waste, but the class is changed - it's converted from middle activity
to weak activity, and such class is safe for natural and man-made
disasters. Under such conditions it's very easy to ensure safety:
instead of deep burial, it can be stored in the warehouse area:
it's completely safe even in a distance of 1 meter."

Femir and Spinker substances have been obtained from the metals of
Meghrasar gold-polymetallic mine in Syunik Region.

The company representatives mentioned that their substances have been
positively valued during the experiments at the Armenian Nuclear Power
Station by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Our aim is
to entirely eliminate radioactive waste emissions in Armenia and we
will be the first to introduce them in our country, though there are
many offers from other countries and now we are running negotiations
with them," said Hamlet Hovsepyan, "AT Metals" Company Group Head,
Advisor to Armenian PM.

"We should finally pass all certification processes, which is already
agreed with the IAEA. This process will take several months, when we
will final develop industrial and technological application process
and will introduce it in the process," Hayk Mezhlumyan said.

According to the company representatives, the production received
due to their developed technological process is at least 2-3 times
cheaper than the other technologies.
