Schiff to host Armenian trade meeting
By CLAUDIA PESCHIUTTA
GLENDALE -- State Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Glendale) is hosting a meeting Friday to
discuss trade between California and Armenia.
"We have a large Armenian-American population in the district that is interested in
developing trade with Armenia," Schiff said.
He has twice introduced unsuccessful legislation calling for the California Trade and
Commerce Agency to study the benefits of opening an office in Armenia.
"It seemed to me that Armenia was a good candidate," said Schiff, who pointed out
there are trade offices in several other countries, including Israel and Singapore.
Schiff hopes the meeting will help inform local business owners of trade
opportunities overseas and lead to steps that will end in the opening of an Armenian
trade office.
Trade with other nations presents tremendous economic benefits for California,
Schiff said.
"When you add it all together, it has a significant impact on the state's bottom line,"
he said.
