Aren't you only 15? You have plenty of V-days ahead. I did see a bunch of high-schoolers going to school with red heart-shaped balloons today, though...cute.

I agree with you 100%. It's just a way for the flower shops to charge 3 times more. Why do we need this one day to do something special for our loved ones?

that being said...
yesterday started out pretty normal at work...just some balloons and some small boxes of chocolates passed out between coworkers...but by 1pm the entire place looked like an advertisement for VAlentines Day,there were flowers and balloons and candy boxes..flowers were being delivered, some people delivered their own flowers, adult children of a coworker delivered their own flowers...it was so pretty...I kept on g oing upstairs just to see how it looked....we had so much fun....we had lunch brought in....some gifts were extravagant most were just plain ol' stuff....and that night all the single workers went out to celebrate SAD day as they call it...which I hear stands for Single Awareness Day ...no harm done,we all had fun...and we went on with our week...we know these holidays are there to sell stuff, flowers cards whatever..so what...it's a little bit of fun during a boring same ol' week....so what?Life is this fun stuff in between all the serious stuff....no one mandates that Valentines Day is the ONLY day to do this...

Is it true that companies like Hallmark come up with special days in order to generate sales? I never thought so, but after seeing such "holidays" like "Residual Horniness Day" and "Kinky Exploration Day", I'm not so sure.

well if Hallmark wants to make money, and if it falls into the mainstream, good for them for making it stick, last I heard they are not a charity but do business to make a profit
so they need to carve their part of the business out...like today I heard they are coming out with cards for people going through chemo or for people who have lost loved ones to a crime,(I can't remember what all the new subjects were, but they were different for sure)

You can say that about any holiday (e.g. why give gifts on birthdays). Why does eveything need to have a deep meaning. It's ok to to stupid, superficial things--such us give others balloons--if it entertains you. Life is about the little things.

But I didn't have to cook; my husband ordered food and it was pretty good.
Valentime was just like any other day.
Ed; after you cooked such a nice dinner with candlelight and flowers; I wished for you that she at least believed that you prepared it all by yourself.

That isn't true, not all holidays are like that. Why do you need a day picked out for you in order to tell the person how much you love them? Why can't this be done year round? I feel the same way for Mothers and Fathers day.

one can do anything they want for a loved one whenever they want...it's not supposed to be THE day to do it...and anyways if Valentines Day is the ONLY day your loved one pays attention to you...it's time to rethink that relationship.
Don't get me wrong, I myself went out for Valentines day. But what's the big deal about that one day.... Your right about about doing anything for a loved one year round, and that's what I'm used to myself. So that's why I don't understand why we need to have a day to do all that.

because it helps the economy...cards are sold, flowers are sold baloons are sold, restaurants do well..and dang it it's just fun!
several of my coworkers had very humongous fancy shmancy flowers and gifts delivered the day before, which I thought was brilliant, they got very impressive stuff and it didnt' cost the sender an arm and a leg I'm sure....
it's just fun, mothers day, valentiens day, birthdays it's just fun...like I said before it's the fun stuff in between the boring the stuff that makes our lives liveable and there is so little of the 'fun' stuff...take any chance you can get I say!
