If you read any American newspaper or pundit or watch a debate on American TV, you will observe that all Americans are critical of some aspects of American life and politics. An Armenian by the name of Avedis Deournian (writing under the pen name John Roy Carlson) published a big book during World War II in which he described many fascist organizations (including the ARF) active within the United States. One could write a similar book today.
On the day all the tribes of the Middle East are democratized, you will be astonished to discover that the Arabs will be as critical of their own leadership as the Americans; and what’s even more important for all Arabs everywhere, Arab leaders will enjoy more prestige and power in the world, including the United States.
But as long as Arabs allow themselves to be bullied into subservience by petty little despots, they will be loathed by all men of goodwill, common sense and decency, including Arabs themselves.
What prevents Arabs from democratizing today? What else but fear of criticism. Surely, of all forms of cowardice, the worst is fear of criticism. We all criticize one another on this forum. So what? The sky doesn’t fall around us. The world does not come to an end. At worst our ego or self-esteem is slightly damaged: a small price to pay if the result is an enhanced understanding of reality and the acquisition of a more objective and balanced view of ourselves in the world in which we live.

And you say that arabs are not critical of their goverment and their leadership? How would you know ?? The biggest thief is US who can't stand beeing critizied. The country who gives You critic would end up as a country with it's cities and high technology destroyed. A good example is Jugoslavia and Irak.

Another point is that the West with USA in particular behave as the worst tribe in the world when it comes to defend its 'vital interests'. They become then more opiniated than any other religious group in the third world. If this is what we should call a model of democracy and human rights I would say 'forget about it'...
