Valentines Day is a cool holiday for everybody, unless you have bad memories of a specific ex with whom you celebrated in the past, etc. And it is also somewhat of a commercial holiday, which is cool too.

it is the dumbest "holiday" there ever was!!! i do wonder what % of all consumers who go out of their way and into their pockets are really sincere about it! mostly it's just an 'expected' thing... don't need ONE day out of the year to show your stinking love with the stinking $80 roses!! right said azat!!

personally i like halloween!!! rather scare the living life out of someone than buy them some fatening candy and some stupid stuffed animal!!

With my love, everyday is valentines day, everyday i love her, and my affection towards her will be my 80$ roses... now imagine $80 roses everyday, or better yet eery moment of every day.....And when i get her the physical roses, thats just an added plus to the allready enough.. think of that.. haha. a plus when u have enouhg. LOL..

Valentines day is ovverated, it is a way to waste more paper, ink, and useful resources and make money seelling 10 cards for a few bucks which in china they print using basically slave labor.. lol...

its sadd.. really....

Is Christmas overrated?
I think all holidays are overrated and big Jewish conspiracy laugh.gif
Why do you think there are holidays every 2 months,to give the economy a little boost dont' you think?
So what???
It's a bit of fun now and then.
Usually the ones complaining are the ones with no one to share the day with.
And the ones who complain that they will not be forced to show their love for someone just because the calendar says so(be it Valenties Day.Mothers Day etc...I even know someone who wont' give his mom a gift or a call even on Mothers day cause he thinks it's a overrated and a conspirace, now how cruel is that?),well they dont' have it in them to show any of that love the rest of the year either.

love can be shown in other ways!! like listening to the person and spending time with them... not everything is about money and following rituals and observing senseless holidays and conforming like sheep to whatever is 'expected' from society!! you're talking about christmas?? ha!! christmas lost its spirit long time ago!! now it's all about "holidays" and finding the best bargains and returning all the unwanted gifts as quickly as possible in exchange for something "better"!!! people have lost touch with what is important anymore! they just do things because others are... we've become a society of followers! dry.gif

On valentine's day, I will be egging everyone I see with flowers or heart shaped chocolates.

It's not that I've been "hurt by love", I just don't like conformists that move to whatever tune is being played by popular culture and consumer holidays. I won't get anyone anything for Valentine's Day. And besides how many of you really know about St. Valentine anyway?

It's a shame that people actually fall victim to this mindless stunt that is mass marketed to the masses. Those that criticize it get things such as "You're just jealous you don't have a Valentine!" and people feel bad because they don't have a "Valentine", and all because of a fake holiday.

Just another attempt for some one to "prove" their love for someone else by dinenrs, movies, roses, and chocolates. I love hearing about break ups on Valentine's Day. Make's you value the fact that you aren't bogged down in a materialistic relationship. Playstations never break up with you. Only you can break up with them.

Hear Hear!

I totally agree. You know a few years ago I think there never even was a Valentine's day, or at least I wasn't even aware there was. Then one day I was told that it was Valentine day. I came as a complete shock to me and everyone was behaving like a raving lunatic. If you want to send someone you love a card, grow some balls and send it, don't wait until Valentine's day. IMO it's a stupid, corny and highly overrated holiday.

I think there is no harm in it. And I never expect roses (they wither and are a waste of money hence), candy (not guaranteed that I'll like them), etc. Maybe a movie and more than usual amount of time spent together, something like that. Nothing extra special about it, just an opportunity.

Ok, and now that we've had a myriad of views expressed, let us, as always and as a boring Hye Forum ritual (speaking of rituals), take a look at the person behind all this - the St. Valentine in question - and "discuss" whether he deserves a day of his own or not, whether he deserved to be a saint or not, whether we actually endorse Roman Catholicism, etc. And before the person who is going to give us all the pertinent revelations speaks, let us put on our dunce caps and not forget to swing our jaws agape.

Well i see there is a lot of malicious feelings about Valetine's by the members of this forum, and I'm glad to see that. I think the day sucks, partially because it's another commercialized jermark un-holyday that now is about money, and also that I've had horrible after horrible experiences most of my life with girls on this day. I've had some good one, but definately not many I must say that. It's like hit or miss, either you have good ones or you don't. Girls expect certain things, if you mess up, it's ruined. If you don't have enough money for what they want, it's ruined. And it's a semi-sexist holiday as guys usually get zero and girls ares supposed to get a lot! (sometimes, not all of course)

When i was in Japan they had White Day, march 14th. On 'our' Valentines Day girls give gifts to their man, or who they are interested in, on White Day a month later guys do the deed. They have this in some others countries as well. What do you all think about that?

Valentine's day is by far the stupidest day. It's dumb, not to mention it's overrated. I don't see why there should be a lovers' day.. I guess I have radical views lol, but lovers don't need a day to show their love to one another.......... or they shouldn't need a day for it, ideally.. blink.gif It really annoys me when people make such a huge friggin deal about Valentine's day.. it's like, 'oh, i have to go and get him something!' !!!!! mad.gif

I agree with rat. Well said!!! biggrin.gif

I once had my door covered in lipstick by some hysterical tart who was in love with me at the time. Since then I have grown a large distaste for Valentine's day. People freak out on that day, horrible.

I agree completely...except for the Jewsih part of it..I mean Jews normally don't care for Christmass..and besides they have a bunch of their own holidays anyway...mor epower to them i say...but yeah Valentines day and showing your love...I'm all for it...and some people do need to be remined (sad)...but I think its those of us who show stuff evry day who even tend to do abit more and enjoy it a bit more...I certainly enjoy the extra affection! LOL

Soviet Union.
March 8th women's day - all women got flowers and gifts from men.
Feb 23 - Soviet Army's day was informally turned into a men's day and some men got gifts and congratulations. It was not as popular as March 8.
After independence in Armenia March 8 was officially removed as a socialist thing and April 7 (something on the religious calendar) was introduced as a day of beauty and femininity to replace March 8. It lasted 1 or 2 years only since it was not popular and March 8 had become a deeply rooted tradition and people would still keep it as such. I believe March 8 has been reinstated officially. However, there is no day for men smile.gif So much about equality of men and women in Armenia.
Some circles in Armenia have the Valentine's day too.

Sasun if it was up to me I would move woman’s day to March 22nd the first day of spring, I think woman and blooming flowers and trees have much in common, As it starts to worm up the air is filed with smells of flowers and changing the river start flooding the valleys and crop lands, as it progresses into April its well spooned and life is starting to take place, by now you start seeing spring in a full action, changing the landscape and its getting ready to embrace what is about to come as know the circle of life. and once again, Life is on the way. smile.gif

you guys feel free to add
