A banner, which was devoted to Armenian national football squad captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan, was at Old Trafford, the Manchester United (a.k.a. Red Devils) home stadium, during the club’s English Premier League clash Sunday against Liverpool F.C.

The banner depicted the Red Devils midfielder’s scorpion kick goal, owing to which he had become the scorer of the Premier League Goal of the Month for December 2016.

Mkhitaryan has this key attribute that Mata, Ozil and Silva do not have - Carragher

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN has one quality that the Premier League's top No.10s lack, according to Jamie Carragher.

By Alex Harris /

Published 5th February 2017

The ex-Liverpool defender believes Manchester United star Mkhitaryan has pace to burn unlike team-mate Juan Mata, Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil and Manchester City's David Silva.

Mkhitaryan impressed in the role as United eased past reigning champions Leicester to move within striking distance of the top four.

The Red Devils made a sluggish start at the King Power Stadium, prompting Jose Mourinho to move Mkhitaryan from the wing to a more central position.

And the Armenia international wreaked havoc, opening the scoring after racing behind Leicester's defence to fire past Kasper Schmeichel before half time.

After the full-time whistle, Carragher told Sky Sports: "He's got something that very few players in that position have, which is pace.

"You think of Juan Mata, Mesut Ozil, maybe David Silva.

"Great technicians but they don't have that pace.

"I think that was vital in the first goal."

Henri the great helps Reds find killer touch

UNITED FIND THE 'BANG' AND 'BOOM' MOURINHO WAS LOOKING FOR THANKS TO
THE SUPERB MKHITARYAN CUTTING THE CHAMPIONS TO PIECES

by stuart mathieson

THE penny is finally dropping with United's players.

Jose Mourinho's latest public messages have clearly got through to his
squad after he attacked their poor finishing quality and perceived
lack of winning mentality that was sabotaging their efforts to make a
decisive hit on the top four race.

Less than two weeks ago Mourinho was telling the media: "A top team
has to be much more clinical. You have to get the first chance of the
match and 'bang,' 1-0. "When you are winning by a goal then, the next
chance, 'boom' - kill the opponent. And we are not doing that enough."

And just 48 hours prior to the Leicester match he was questioning some
of his players over their mental state that had cost United so many
points this campaign after nine league draws.

The MKHITARYAN there can future role as the Stuart "They need that
time to go out of their comfort zone or a zone where they are
protected that we assume the objective is not to win," said Mourinho.
This was a vicious response to those valid points from the Old
Trafford boss.

In fairness, it did take a while at the King Power stadium to wonder
if the messages had fallen on deaf ears.

Leicester are certainly not the in-yourface, vibrant, counter
attackers they were last season as they created the fairytale league
title season, but United were certainly helping them look more like
champions than the relegation strugglers they now are.

Mourinho has often waited for his interval chance to change things,
but he couldn't wait on this occasion.

Retro 4-4-2 was ditched after just 20 minutes and that allowed Henrikh
Mkhitaryan to be released from his wasted wing role.

There hadn't been many chances at all but when the Armenian burst
through onto Chris Smalling's flicked-on header, he went at the heart
of Leicester's defence and as Mourinho said it was 'bang' 1-0. Then it
was 'boom' in a minute when Zlatan Ibrahimovic finally woke from his
slumber and steered in the irrepressible proved only be one for him...
number 10 Mathieson second from Antonio Valencia's cross. Any
Leicester revival was obliterated.

United had killed them, just as Mourinho wanted.

The irrepressible Mkhitaryan proved that there surely can only be one
future role for him in the Reds XI and that is as the number 10.

Whether he is doing it by sheer power with his bullet finishes or
clever vision to set up Juan Mata for the Spaniard to make it 3-0
after 49 minutes, the Armenian is a must in that role coveted by so
many in United's squad.

Maybe Mourinho is 'into something good after all.' ¦ HENRIKH
MKHITARYAN AT 10 HENRIKH Mkhitaryan started on the left, but it wasn't
until he was moved inside by Jose Mourinho that United began to
dominate.

He scored the first, then made the third for Juan Mata. He was
involved in most of the good things United did, able to drift around
and find space wherever he wanted.

WHAT ROB It was a performance that might tempt Mourinho to make the
change permanent. ¦ 4-4-2 MOURINHO sprung a surprise by starting with
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford up front.

It didn't really work and it was only when he went back to 4-2-3-1
that United began to look like the better team.

It does, though, show that Mourinho is actively looking for ways to
help United score more goals.

He's rarely played 4-4-2 at any of the clubs he's been but he was
flexible enough to try it.

We may see it more next season if WE he signs a new striker and
Ibrahimovic stays for another year.

DAWSON ¦ ERIC BAILLY IS FIRST CHOICE PHIL Jones and Marcos Rojo have
been good. And Chris Smalling has looked comfortable whenever he's
come into the team.

But at the King Power Stadium, Eric Bailly reminded everyone that he
is still first choice.

He slotted seamlessly back into the team on his first game back since
the Africa Cup of Nations.

Hopefully Jamie Vardy escaped from the Ivorian's pocket before the kit
was loaded back onto the bus.

¦ ANTHONY MARTIAL IS BEING MADE TO WAIT HE was, at least, back in the
squad to play Leicester. But even with United 3-0 up and cruising,
Martial was still overlooked in favour of Ashley Young.

Young might argue that he needed a run out, too. But it looks like
Martial will have to earn his next chance.

Watford at home on Saturday might be the ideal opportunity for
Mourinho to see if the Frenchman has learned his lesson.

doing that to There chances at Armenian onto in finally slumber The
irrepressible Mkhitaryan proved there can only be one future role for
him... as the number 10 Stuart Mathieson

Mkhitaryan is no midfielder, he is Jose's perfect 10

OPINION
by Samuel Luckhurst

UNITED supporters might have to amend their chant for Henrikh
Mkhitaryan. Armenian? Yes. Midfielder? No. Mkhitaryan is much more
devastating than a mere midfielder.

The Leicester win included Mkhitaryan's fifth goal, fourth assist and
fifth man of the match award since he returned from that two-anda-half
month exile against Feyenoord in late November. And it says much about
how Mkhitaryan is regarded that he was retained in the team after a
toiling evening against Hull.

The 28-year-old's opener at the King Power Stadium was the most
decisive moment, yet the most penetrating dart from Mkhitaryan came
before that.

Almost single-handedly Mkhitaryan switched United from defence to
attack, nutmegging Danny Drinkwater, luring Wilfred Ndidi away from
the fort, leaving Ahmed Musa on his backside and bypassing Christian
Fuchs to cross for Marcus Rashford to balloon over. There were 16
seconds between Mkhitaryan receiving the ball midway inside his own
half and executing his centre almost level with the six-yard box.

That red sky in Leicester might have signalled a new dawn for United
and for Mkhitaryan. The virtuoso attacker is flexible enough to switch
a disjointed 4-4-2 to an incisive 4-2-3-1 and Mourinho might only
revert to 4-3-3 against United's eminent competitors.

'Right midfield' was how Mourinho described Mkhitaryan's position days
before he completed his signing and it is an area United might have to
reinforce more specifically in the summer. Mkhitaryan is understood to
prefer the playmaker role and his latest display suggests he should
stay there.

Just imagine if Mourinho chose Juan Mata or Wayne Rooney to play
behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Mata might have nipped in ahead of Robert
Huth but Rooney would not have.

Mkhitaryan leaves opponents looking as helpless as Wile E Coyote.

Mkhitaryan's poise while carrying the ball is comparable with
football's finest dribblers. Every caress is weighted to perfection
and an underrated facet of his December winner versus Tottenham was
the first touch which adjusted his sprint - Toby Alderweireld was on
his coat tails by the time he larruped the ball past Hugo Lloris.

A midfield axis, traditionally favoured by Mourinho, might be in vogue
again with United's next top-half opposition possibly coming in early
April. How ironic Mkhitaryan is the difference between an unsettled
side and a settled one.

The player is settled, too. He recently moved out of his hotel, has
discovered Manchester's only Armenian restaurant and his idea of a
night in tends to be watching his ex-club Borussia Dortmund on TV.

Mkhitaryan might have to accommodate Antoine Griezmann next season.
The France international also covets the second striker role and is a
more prolific finisher.

Yet Mkhitaryan tends to find a way. He has scored from the left, right
and centre for United. He's the attacking Armenian.

“Unpredictable” Mkhitaryan can hold the key, teammate Chris Smalling says
Smalling-Mkhitaryan-620x300.jpg

Henrikh Mkhitaryan heads into tonight’s Europa League Round of 16 second leg against FC Rostov with praise from Manchester United team-mate Chris Smalling ringing in his ears, according to the club’s official website.

The Armenian has been instrumental in the Reds’ European progress, scoring against Zorya Luhansk, Saint-Etienne and in the first game at Rostov, and is expected to be a key figure as Jose Mourinho’s men look to reach the quarter-finals of a competition the club has never won.

After being withdrawn in the wake of Ander Herrera’s dismissal at Chelsea on Monday, a tactical sacrifice, the clever schemer will hopefully be raring to go against the Russians at Old Trafford.

When asked by tonight’s United Review, the official matchday programme, if everybody is glad Mkhitaryan has returned from injury, Smalling replied: “Yeah, we are – it is great. He had missed a few games but he came back and had an instant impact like he had never been away. It is great to have such great attacking options and Micki has been brilliant for us, because he is a threat that is very hard to defend against.

“I think it could be a coincidence [he’s done so well in Europe] but, as a player, he is very unpredictable. Every player in the world knows who Henrikh Mkhitaryan is. But it is one thing to know him and another to deal with him. I am lucky that he is on our team and I am not playing against him.

“He is often thinking one step ahead [in training], whether it is a pass or a dribble. He is deceptively quick as well and he is probably quicker with the ball than he is without, which is rare for a lot of players. He is a great, great asset for us.”

Kandelaki continues hailing Mkhitaryan on social media

Popular Russian journalist and producer, director at Match TV sports channel Tina Kandelaki has taken to Facebook to post another message about Armenian national team captain and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Kandelki has posted Mkhitaryan’s photo with accompanying poem by Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents:

“We are few but we are called Armenians
We do not put ourselves above anyone
Simply we also admit that we, only we have Mount Ararat
And that it is right here on the clear Sevan
that the sky could make its exact duplicate
Simply David has indeed fought right here
Simply the Narek was written right here
Simply we know how to build from the rock, a monastery
How to make fish from stone, how to make man from clay
To learn to become the student of the beautiful,
the kind,
the noble,
and the good.” read the post.

Days ago, Kandelaki and Mkhitaryan exchanged compliments on Twitter with the Russian journalist praising Mkhitaryan and informing her Tbilisi living mother was big fan of the Armenian player. In response, Mkhitaryan thanked Kandelaki and all his fans in Georgia.

To remind, Tina Kandelaki was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Her father Givi Kandelaki is descended from the Kandelakis, a noble Georgian family of Caucasus Greek descent while Tina’s mother Elvira Kandelaki (maiden name Alakhverdova) is a narcologist of Armenian descent.

To add, Kandelaki has spoken of her Georgian and Armenian origin on numerous occasions.

Mkhitaryan wins goal of the season award

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s scorpion’ kick against Sunderland has been voted Manchester United’s Goal of the Season for 2016/17 by a big margin.

As the club reports on its website, Mkhitaryan’s goal picked up 57 per cent of the votes in the official poll on ManUtd.com. Wayne Rooney’s record-breaking 250th goal for United, a spectacular last-gasp free-kick in January’s draw at Stoke City, was the runner-up with 13 per cent, and Paul Pogba’s long-range drive at Swansea City on nine per cent completed the top three.

Fans’ favourite Mkhitaryan also provided three other contenders in the original 10-strong shortlist for the prize but his inventive strike against the Black Cats, the finest goal of his career by his own admission, proved a landslide victor.

Collecting the accolade at Thursday’s end-of-season awards ceremony at Old Trafford, the 28-year-old said: "To be honest, I was impressed as well. I just realised when I went home and watched it again." Crediting the player who provided the assist for his award-winning goal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Armenian quipped: "I couldn't miss this great opportunity because I received a great ball from the god!"

DREAM TEAM RATINGS Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the star of the show as Manchester United thrash Swansea City

Armenian winger grabs his third and fourth assists of the new Premier League season to cap a man of the match performance for the Red Devils at the Liberty Stadium

By Gary Stonehouse

HENRIKH MKITARYAN was the star of the show as Manchester United thumped Swansea City on Saturday.

After a tricky start to life in the North West last season the Armenian appears to be firmly finding his feet at Old Trafford.

nintchdbpict000346672229-e1503151049917.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan stole the show as Manchester United thumped Swansea on Saturday

His performance in the 4-0 demolition of the Swans capped a fine display that saw him top the Dream Team ratings of those on show.

He underlined his man of the match effort by adding another two assists to his stats.

And that took his tally to four for the season, already three more than he registered in the Premier League during his first campaign.

Afterwards, Mkhitaryan was keen to point out the efforts of his colleagues.

He told Sky Sports: “It was a tough game, especially in the first half.

“We had passion, we did what we had to do. The second half became much easier because they played with more defenders and that left space.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan produces scintillating creative display against Swansea City

Henrikh Mkhitaryan produced a truly sensational display at No.10 during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Swansea City in the Premier League.

The Armenian, who claimed two assists against West Ham last weekend, struggled to find space early on as Swansea packed the midfield.

He was nonetheless tidy on the ball and, with Swansea starting to tire, supplied Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba with inch-perfect assists during the last ten minutes.

His numbers from the game shed light on what was an effervescent display in south Wales.

Mkhitaryan only managed one assist in the Premier League last season. This time around, however, he has four after just two games – another potent indicator of the dynamics shifting for United on a domestic front this time around. They have already scored 15 per cent of the goals they managed in the league last term.

Whisper it, but there is genuine change happening amidst Mourinho’s men this season, and at the heart of it lies the Armenian. He struggled to find space against Paul Clement’s side but was wonderfully nimble and aware in possession, always there to turn and spring forward, picking out teammates at will.

And United’s procession during the latter stages couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the 28-year-old’s superb vision and execution. Mourinho ought to give him a run of games in that role – something he didn’t really do last year.

The sudden impact brought by the diminutive magician will be crucial, you sense, when it comes to unlocking lesser sides hellbent on packing the midfield this season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic expects Henrikh Mkhitaryan to be Manchester United’s player of the season

The Manchester United striker, who has now rejoined the club, is expecting big things from the Armenian national team captain and Manchester United midfield Henrikh Mkhitaryan following his explosive start to the season.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hailed Henrikh Mkhitaryan and believes he is set to make a big impact at Manchester United in the 2017-18 campaign, Goal.com reported.

The 35-year-old completed a return to Old Trafford on August 24, less than two months after it was announced that he was released after not having been offered a new contract by the club.

And when discussing his thoughts for the new season, Ibrahimovic identified Mkhitaryan as having a key role to play, insisting that he expects him to get the credit he deserves this year.
The Swede told ESPN: "I think this season will be the season of Mkhitaryan.

"Last season he struggled a little bit in the beginning, then he came up when he started to play and this season he has opened the season fantastic.

"People underestimate him because he doesn't have the name like the other ones in the world, it could be because he comes from a small country like he comes from but this year he will get the credit he deserves and the quality that he is. My bet is on Mkhitaryan.
"If he doesn't provide me he will not play [laughs]. I'm joking!" the source quoted the Swedish international.

PanARMENIAN.Net - José Mourinho praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s start and admitted the forward’s progress could have been quicker last season if they had understood each other better, The Guardian reports.

Mkhitaryan started United’s 4-0 wins over West Ham and Swansea City in the No10 berth, impressing in each. Last season Mkhitaryan did not make his full debut until Manchester City’s visit on 10 September and was replaced at half-time.

Asked about the 28-year-old Armenia international’s form now Mourinho said: “He understands me and I understand him. Beginning of [last] season, if he had understood me better he would start better. If I had understood him better, probably I would have helped him in a faster way than I did. But we spent a lot of time together, learning each other. I know him well. He knows me well. The second part was good for him. With his talent, this season [will be] even better.”

Paul Pogba secured 140 points and was announced as the UEFA Europa League Player of the 2016/17 season asMkhitaryan (Armenia) and Zlatan Ibrahimović (Sweden) came second and third with 129 and 109 points respectively.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan finally unleashed his elegant beast: Tribal Football

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has finally unleashed his elegant beast mode upon the English top-flight, Tribal Football said, adding that the Armenia international is the key to Manchester United's success this season.

The article reminds how prior to the 2015/16 season, Mkhitaryan was one of Europe's lesser known midfield maestros - somewhat of an on-his-day, but quality footballer whose 'days' were phenomenal, "so it came as somewhat of a shock when he did what he did for Dortmund and piqued the interest of 'the biggest club in the world'."

Apart from the assists, his overall play has been nothing short of sublime as he's brilliantly linked up with (Romelu) Lukaku so far this season who looks set to enjoy a Henry/Bergkamp-esque partnership with the Armenia international," the article says.

The ex-Dortmund man makes United tick, in a way arguably no player has since their last Premier League title winning season.

With five assists to his name already, you can only wonder how many goals Mkhitaryan will go on to create this season in and beyond the Premier League, but from the looks of things, its poised to be a silverware-winning tally.
