Denmark’s Parliament adopts Armenian Genocide bill
Denmark-Parliament-620x300.jpg

The Parliament of Denmark voted 89 to 9 with 11 abstention today to adopt an Armenian Genocide bill, according to the website of the Danish Parliament.

On January 19 the Parliament had 2.5 hours of discussion on the bill brought to the agenda by Nick Hækkerup (S) , Søren Espersen (DF) , Michael Aastrup Jensen (V) , Henrik Dahl (LA) , Martin Lidegaard (RV) , Naser Khader (KF).

The document reads, in part: “The Parliament confirms its decision no. V 54 of 19 May 2015 on the tragic and bloody events that took place in eastern Anatolia in the period 1915-1923. The Danish Parliament finds that the best path to reconciliation will be an open dialogue about the story on the basis of a free and uncensored history research, including the release of all official documents from the period. The Parliament regrets that Turkish law prohibits citizens and media to use the term “genocide” about the events, and considers this to be an unreasonable restriction of both academic freedom as freedom of _expression_ relates to the use of this term. Parliament maintains its parliamentary tradition not to issue judgments about historical events.”

Wasn't it  year ago the plans to install a sculpture commemorating the Armenian Genocide in one of Copenhagen's busiest squares,  had Turkish officials :angryfire: ,  both the discussions about the massacre, and the building of the sculpture were delayed.
Now  Today :ap:  Just  about 5 hours ago   government officials voted for the Recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Thank You !!! Denmark !!! God Bless

Turkey’s denial of Armenian Genocide is “unreasonable restriction” – Parliament of Denmark
16:25, 26 January, 2017

YEREVAN, JANUARY 26, ARMENPRESS. The Parliament of Denmark adopted the resolution entitled “Armenian Genocide” during the January 26 session, reports “Armenpress”.

The resolution expresses regret that in Turkey it is impossible to hold a serious public and scientific discussion about the Genocide.

The resolution says: “The Parliament regrets that the Turkish legislation bans the citizens and mass media to use the term “genocide” in connection with the events and believes that this is an unreasonable restriction on academic freedom, as well as freedom of speech without using this term”.

By this resolution the Parliament reaffirmed its decision adopted on May 19, 2015 which condemned “the massacres and other acts of violence committed against Armenians”.

The resolution was adopted with 89 votes in favor, 9 against, and 11 abstained.
