QUOTE (24avril1915 @ Jan 2 2008, 07:48 AM)

That is a wonderful treasure.
Thank you Avril.
I know most of those places featured, and many of the names, even if at times personally.
Johannes, այդ արդիական թաղամասը որտեղ է, Սուլէյմանիէ, Ազիզիիէ թէ Սէպիլ էչ 89, եւ նոյն էչ; Զուարթնոց Եկեղեցին?
The chief editor Dr. Robert Jebejian (1909-2001), born in Aintab was a prominent ophthalmologist , founder of his own eye clinic. It was at his clinic that the first corneal transplant, actually was prformed by Dr. Artin (Harutiun) Ingilizian, born in Marash and specialized in Paris. Beside being ahighly skilled physician, Dr. Jebejian was an accomplished artist and musician(vilonoist), founder the Sarian Art Institute** and te Komitas Quartet.
Johannes can tell us more about him.
Many of those on the editorial board are familiar to me.
On page 90 , the acknowledgement one name stands out., the much loved and respected Doctor Artin of Aleppo, Dr, Harutiun TerGhazarian. Born in Marash 1881, MD diploma at the AUB, he was not only a n accomplished physician that hade tended to 3,4,5 generations, besides he was a historian in his own right and philanthropist. He was never married, and neither were his two sisters. All three of them lived a very modest monk-like lives. He had a very modest office, he did not have a set fee, he would have a basket by his desk where people would drop whatever they could afford or not at all.
Also, on page 67 we see the Bethel school with Hovannes Haydostian the principle. His grandson Paul Haydostian is the current president of Haykazian University, whose father, in his own turn was the principle of the school..

Many prominent Armenian were born or grew in those tin houses. Among which the blessed mempry HH Zareh Kathoghikos Payaslian of the Great House of Kilikia.
PS. Someone should write about the "tin city" of beirut, nicknamed "char chabuk/ in a hurry" as well, and lets us know how many prominent Armenians hail from there.

“Mardiros Sarian” painting Academy (founded in 1955) have extremely remarkable activities . “Mardiros Sarian” has started by efforts of architect and artist Zareh Kaplan and famous oculist and intellectual Dr. Rober Jebejian . The Bibliographic Committee which is unique in itself has formed in 1967. It has been dedicated to the grateful work of saving our spiritual and cultural values .
“Violette Jebejian” library has established under the supervision and help of Dr. Rober Jebejian on 13th July in 1971 . Recently, they have flourished editorial activities “Keghart’ yearly book is mentionable . Up to 1969, A.G.B.U. has patronized the theatrical group Sountukian (founded in 1930s) , then rechristened & renamed by Bedros Atamian in 1961. The appreciable role of the theatrical group continues up to date

Սա ինձ յիշեցուց մի դէպք որ ես լսեցի այս Ծնունդի շրջանին.
I will tell the story in English so everyone here can rad and understand.
This I heard a couple of weeks ago from an eyewitness. I must make sure to have a box of Kleenex at hand. msn-cry.gif msn-cry.gif
This is one of many millions of such stories. Once again read Siamanto's Kheghdamah@.
----
This family from Aintab had many aunts and uncles among which an aunt “horaquyr”, a very handsome lady, highly intelligent, an angel that made it her business to attend to every matter and crisis. She was a surrogate mother to all the children. There was a dark chapter in her life when she disappeared for a time. She was never married. To questions as to why she would only say that it was her personal choice. This lady lived to a ripe old age of close to ninety, and only in her last year of life she told the real story.
During the “massacres” ** she had been raped by a furkish son of a dog. She had conceived and when the time had arrived she had disappeared somewhere where she had delivered… and that she had strangled the baby with her own hands saying- “Satkir!! Shun turki lakot”!!
**I use that term to mean that there were several of them that culminated in 1915, and continued.

Dear Elle, Moi, Toi, Soi, Loui,
Please don’t let me dilute your excellent posts here. I tearfully enjoy everyone of them.
You must be psychic. Only a few says ago when I was searching for Karen Jeppe. Let Johannes tell us about her.
http://www.fredsakad...ary/ukjeppe.htm
I came across Maria Jacobsen
http://www.azad-hye....i...1376a&pi=14
Which took me to
http://www.bibleland..._nest/index.htm
I am ashamed to say this. Please refer to “Why are there Armenian Protestants” under the general topic of “Theology”. Could these be partial answers to the question? Is it because of St. Maria and St. Karen?
Irony of all times ironies!

DENMARK DOES NOT OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN OTTOMAN EMPIRE

ArmInfo. Denmark does not officially recognize that Ottoman massacres
of Armenians during World War I constitute a "genocide", Danish Foreign
Minister Per Stig Moeller said in a written parliamentary answer.
As AFP reports, "In the government's opinion, this is a historical
question that should be left up to the historians," Moeller wrote in
a written parliamentary answer, indicating that Denmark would not
follow the lead of some 20 other pro-armenian countries, including
France, that have labeled the killings "genocide" despite the position
of historians.Moeller's note came in response to a question from
extremist parliamentary member Morten Messerchmidt, of the far-right
Danish People's Party and close to armenian lobby in Denmark, on
whether "Denmark had officially recognized this genocide.""It is
unfortunate that the Danish government refuses to join other countries
in recognizing this genocide," Messerschmidt told AFP.

Miss Jeppe was in Urfa before the big tragedy. After, she came to Aleppo and gathered widows and orphans in her orphanage. That place now is an Armenian secondary school named "Karen Jeppe azgayin jemaran". I tell little, you understand much. She was like salvage angel for our ancestrys. She is buried in Armenian cemetery in Aleppo.

Please observe Rev. Oluf Paake below.
I have met him in person. Allow me to tell this humorous encounter.
At one of our conventions he was the featured speaker and director of program. His program of the day was hobbies and “handiwork”. After his presentations, in his Danish Armenian (could not pronounce TS/Ձ/ Ց) he said much to our co-ed adolescent, testosterone/estrogen loaded delight- “Yev hima menq piti ‘zougavorvinq’ yev ‘serayin’ ashkhatanq anenq/Եւ հիմա մենք պիտի զուգավորուինք եւ ‘սեռային/ձեռային’ աշխատանք անենք”. tongue.gif biggrin.gif
