Communism back in fashion

After the collapse of the Soviet Union some people called for the removal of the red stars from the Kremlin towers, saying they were the reminders of the Soviet past that, back then, many wanted to forget.

But as the years go by, Russians are becoming more tolerant to their history.

About two decades after Soviet Russia’s demise, there are still those who believe ending communism was a mistake.

If by "Communism" you mean one party dominated system, well Japan also has a system where one party (LDP) dominates. That doesn't realy matter.

If you mean socialist economy, well maybe there still are some babushkas who have nostalgia for Communism in terms of high pensions, cheap food and free tickets for public transport and other public services but Russia nowadays is anything but Communist. Believe me the U.S. (or Sweden) is much more a communist state than today's Russia.

There's a bar or club thing just across Abovyan street in Yerevan called "CCCP" (next to the Porsche dealership iirc); I thought it was some good old, nostalgic USSR bar but I was severely disappointed when I visited it sad.gif

Soviet symbols in Yerevan remain - the train station at Sassuntsi Davit still has the red star; the Azgayin Joghov building's gates still have the red stars. I have relatives (middle aged, far from being babushkas) who just lament over the collapse of the USSR anytime I bring it up.

Heh, even Khachaturyan's anthem is better than the voghormeli one we got now.

Yeah, the same guy who wrote it back in Stalin's days was the one who wrote it when Putin took power.

Seriously, let's just remove any mention of Lenin and Communism and replace them with some logical terms and we have a great new anthem.
