Gaghghiarēn
As I was searching Google Books for random Armenian related items, I happened across this:
Բառգիրք Հայ-Գաղղիարէն եւ Գաղղիարէն-Հայերէն (Baṛgirkʻ hay-gaghghiarēn ew gaghghiarēn-hayerēn)
Google link
Armenian-'Gaghian', 'Gaghian' Armenian Dictionary, 1881, by one Ambroise Nar Bey, referred to as G.A. Nar Bey De Lusignian in original text.
It is apparent from the bilingual title page that Գաղղիարէն -this "Gagh" language- is in fact none other than French. The accidental discovery of this term absolutely fascinates me, as it is a clearly a form of Gaul/Gallia, employing perhaps the oldest toponym/ethnonym of France.
I am wondering if any of you have ever seen this variation before, and if so, when was it used?

Yes, it is common knowledge that Armenians, specially the Grabar speaking, i.e clergy call France Gaghia/Գաղիա. Some go even further and call England Ang-ghia/Անգղիա so much so that some will claim the English hail from Ang-gh/Անգղ as in Tork Ang-ghia /Տորք Անգղիա (note his work «Անգղիարէն» below). Some people in Jerusalem (Երուսաղէմ) call Bethlehem Բեթղեհէմ:**It is apparent from the bilingual title page that Գաղղիարէն -this "Gagh" language- is in fact none other than French. ** A well known fact that the Latin L becomes Ղ in Armenian:
As to Ambrosias , use Galfayan/Գալֆայան as your google word.
He was born in Bolis 1826 d. Paris 1906. Educated first in Bolis then Venice Mkhitarist, btw he and some others were Catholic. The Better known is Abp. Khoren Narbey Calfayan Lusignan (Another story worth looking into).Beside his masterpiece above Ambrosios authored many other linguistic an lexicographic (text books) as well as a text of mathematics.*** At times he used the penname of Guidon/Guy Lusignan, specially to sign his nationalistic articles. He and other Lusigna/Calfayans claimed to be descended of the Klikian Royal Dynasty.

While Գաղ/Գաղիա/Gagh/Gaghia was a pleasant new lesson, I had heard (in fact I believe here on the forum, in a thread involving yourself ) about Անգղիա/Anghia/Anglia. The suggested connection of Angl/Anglia to Անգղ/Անգեղ/Անգղիա and subsequently to the mythography of Տորք is intriguing to say the least. It propels further thought on the origin of the name Anglia.
The oldest recorded form of the name is the Latin "Anglii" mentioned by Tacitus, referring to a tribe in Germania. The name later resurfaces as the Old English "Englas", the German "Angeln" and ultimately the English Angles. Because of the lack of a prior, native resource dealing with Germanic tribe names -Jute, Saxon, etc-, the interpretations genesis of the term is open ended. Proposed etymologies include:
-The Latin angulus = "angle" (doubtful, since a pagan tribe likely would not adopt a Roman christening).
-From the Germanic god Ingwaz and the Ingvaeones federation of which the Angles were part of (the initial vowel could be read as "e" or "a", or per the Ynglinga saga, "ee", as in Yngvi).
-It may mean "the people who dwell by the Narrow Water (i.e. the Schlei)", from the Proto-Indo-European language root ang- meaning "narrow", or
-The Old English word Angel, for the district of Angeln on the Baltic in Germany (?-Z.) where the Angles may have come from (Was it district > ethnos or vice versa?)
In any case, one wonders what information may be uncovered in the future regarding the birthplace of Angels and fellow tribes.
