Is Armenian agriculture free from GMO --genetically modified foods?
Does Armenia has GMO labels notice on food and produce that are sold in its supermakets?
Do Armenian farmers use GMO seeds?

Here is a link to a recently posted video explaining what GMO is:

Russia Warns Obama: Monsanto

May 28th 137 Comments
http://topinfopost.c...-obama-monsanto

The shocking minutes relating to President Putin’s meeting this past week with US Secretary of State John Kerry reveal the Russian leaders “extreme outrage” over the Obama regimes continued protection of global seed and plant bio-genetic giants Syngenta and Monsanto in the face of a growing
“bee apocalypse” that the Kremlin warns “will most certainly” lead to world war.
According to these minutes, released in the Kremlin today by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation (MNRE), Putin was so incensed over the Obama regimes refusal to discuss this grave matter that he refused for three hours to even meet with Kerry, who had traveled to Moscow on a scheduled diplomatic mission, but then relented so as to not cause an even greater rift between these two nations.
At the center of this dispute between Russia and the US, this MNRE report says, is the “undisputed evidence” that a class of neuro-active insecticides chemically related to nicotine, known as neonicotinoids, are destroying our planets bee population, and which if left unchecked could destroy our world’s ability to grow enough food to feed its population.
So grave has this situation become, the MNRE reports, the full European Commission (EC) this past week instituted a two-year precautionary ban (set to begin on 1 December 2013) on these “bee killing” pesticides following the lead of Switzerland, France, Italy, Russia, Slovenia and Ukraine, all of whom had previously banned these most dangerous of genetically altered organisms from being used on the continent.
Two of the most feared neonicotinoids being banned are Actara and Cruiser made by the Swiss global bio-tech seed and pesticide giant Syngenta AG which employs over 26,000 people in over 90 countries and ranks third in total global sales in the commercial agricultural seeds market.

Important to note, this report says, is that Syngenta, along with bio-tech giants Monsanto, Bayer, Dow and DuPont, now control nearly 100% of the global market for genetically modified pesticides, plants and seeds.
Also to note about Syngenta, this report continues, is that in 2012 it was criminally charged in Germany for concealing the fact that its genetically modified corn killed cattle, and settled a class-action lawsuit in the US for $105 million after it was discovered they had contaminated the drinking supply of some 52 million Americans in more than 2,000 water districts with its “gender-bending” herbicide Atrazine.
To how staggeringly frightful this situation is, the MNRE says, can be seen in the report issued this past March by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) wherein they warned our whole planet is in danger, and as we can, in part, read:
“As part of a study on impacts from the world’s most widely used class of insecticides, nicotine-like chemicals called neonicotinoids, American Bird Conservancy (ABC) has called for a ban on their use as seed treatments and for the suspension of all applications pending an independent review of the products’ effects on birds, terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates, and other wildlife.

“It is clear that these chemicals have the potential to affect entire food chains. The environmental persistence of the neonicotinoids, their propensity for runoff and for groundwater infiltration, and their cumulative and largely irreversible mode of action in invertebrates raise significant environmental concerns,” said Cynthia Palmer, co-author of the report and Pesticides Program Manager for ABC, one of the nation’s leading bird conservation organizations.

ABC commissioned world renowned environmental toxicologist Dr. Pierre Mineau to conduct the research. The 100-page report, “The Impact of the Nation’s Most Widely Used Insecticides on Birds,” reviews 200 studies on neonicotinoids including industry research obtained through the US Freedom of Information Act. The report evaluates the toxicological risk to birds and aquatic systems and includes extensive comparisons with the older pesticides that the neonicotinoids have replaced. The assessment concludes that the neonicotinoids are lethal to birds and to the aquatic systems on which they depend.
“A single corn kernel coated with a neonicotinoid can kill a songbird,” Palmer said. “Even a tiny grain of wheat or canola treated with the oldest neonicotinoid — called imidacloprid — can fatally poison a bird. And as little as 1/10th of a neonicotinoid-coated corn seed per day during egg-laying season is all that is needed to affect reproduction.”
The new report concludes that neonicotinoid contamination levels in both surface- and ground water in the United States and around the world are already beyond the threshold found to kill many aquatic invertebrates.”

Quickly following this damning report, the MRNE says, a large group of group of American beekeepers and environmentalists sued the Obama regime over the continued use of these neonicotinoids stating: “We are taking the EPA to court for its failure to protect bees from pesticides. Despite our best efforts to warn the agency about the problems posed by neonicotinoids, the EPA continued to ignore the clear warning signs of an agricultural system in trouble.”
And to how bad the world’s agricultural system has really become due to these genetically modified plants, pesticides and seeds, this report continues, can be seen by the EC’s proposal this past week, following their ban on neonicotinoids, in which they plan to criminalize nearly all seeds and plants not registered with the European Union, and as we can, in part, read:

“Europe is rushing towards the good ol days circa 1939, 40… A new law proposed by the European Commission would make it illegal to “grow, reproduce or trade” any vegetable seeds that have not been “tested, approved and accepted” by a new EU bureaucracy named the “EU Plant Variety Agency.”
It’s called the Plant Reproductive Material Law, and it attempts to put the government in charge of virtually all plants and seeds. Home gardeners who grow their own plants from non-regulated seeds would be considered criminals under this law.”

This MRNE report points out that even though this EC action may appear draconian, it is nevertheless necessary in order to purge the continent from continued contamination of these genetically bred “seed monstrosities.”

Most perplexing in all of this, the MRNE says, and which led to Putin’s anger at the US, has been the Obama regimes efforts to protect pesticide-producer profits over the catastrophic damaging being done to the environment, and as the Guardian News Service detailed in their 2 May article titled “US rejects EU claim of insecticide as prime reason for bee colony collapse” and which, in part, says:
“The European Union voted this week for a two-year ban on a class of pesticides, known as neonicotinoids, that has been associated with the bees’ collapse. The US government report, in contrast, found multiple causes for the collapse of the honeybees.”
To the “truer” reason for the Obama regimes protection of these bio-tech giants destroying our world, the MRNE says, can be viewed in the report titled “How did Barack Obama become Monsanto’s man in Washington?” and which, in part, says:

“After his victory in the 2008 election, Obama filled key posts with Monsanto people, in federal agencies that wield tremendous force in food issues, the USDA and the FDA: At the USDA, as the director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Roger Beachy, former director of the Monsanto Danforth Center. As deputy commissioner of the FDA, the new food-safety-issues czar, the infamous Michael Taylor, former vice-president for public policy for Monsanto. Taylor had been instrumental in getting approval for Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone.”

Even worse, after Russia suspended the import and use of an Monsanto genetically modified corn following a study suggesting a link to breast cancer and organ damage this past September, the Russia Today News Service reported on the Obama regimes response:
“The US House of Representatives quietly passed a last-minute addition to the Agricultural Appropriations Bill for 2013 last week – including a provision protecting genetically modified seeds from litigation in the face of health risks.
The rider, which is officially known as the Farmer Assurance Provision, has been derided by opponents of biotech lobbying as the “Monsanto Protection Act,” as it would strip federal courts of the authority to immediately halt the planting and sale of genetically modified (GMO) seed crop regardless of any consumer health concerns.
The provision, also decried as a “biotech rider,” should have gone through the Agricultural or Judiciary Committees for review. Instead, no hearings were held, and the piece was evidently unknown to most Democrats (who hold the majority in the Senate) prior to its approval as part of HR 993, the short-term funding bill that was approved to avoid a federal government shutdown.”

On 26 March, Obama quietly signed this “Monsanto Protection Act” into law thus ensuring the American people have no recourse against this bio-tech giant as they fall ill by the tens of millions, and many millions will surely end up dying in what this MRNE report calls the greatest agricultural apocalypse in human history as over 90% of feral (wild) bee population in the US has already died out, and up to 80% of domestic bees have died out too.

Here is a link that gives you a guide for food that has genetically engineered ingredients and those that do not. Notice big names and brands that often you find them on sale and usually cheaper all of them HAVE genetically engineered ingredients in their products. While 'Whole-Foods" markets' brands do not have except in very few. This guide in no way lists ALL GMO infected foods, to list all the guide will be too long. If you are using one of GMO foods in great quantities you better switch to the alternative brand with no GMO for health reasons for you and for your descendants, although this will cost you a bit more but you are bound to save in health bills as GMO foods affect your immunity:

Russia and Bulgaria have completely banned all rice imports from the U.S.

Unapproved genetically-modified rice trials in U.S. have contaminated the world's rice supply

Wednesday, July 03, 2013 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

http://www.naturalne...lypse_USDA.html

(NaturalNews) New evidence has emerged suggesting that the entire global supply of rice may have already been contaminated by unapproved, genetically-modified (GM) rice varieties manufactured by the American multinational corporation Bayer CropScience. A recent entry in the GM Contamination Register explains that between the years of 2006 and 2007, three different varieties of illegal GM rice, none of which have ever been approved for cultivation or consumption anywhere in the world, were identified in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Once again, field trials conducted by Bayer back in the mid-1990s appear to have been the cause of this widespread and irreversible genetic pollution. Though all official field trials of "Frankenrice" supposedly ended in 2002, the three GM rice varieties detected somehow made their way into the general rice supply, which has had a major negative impact on U.S. rice exports. Similar contamination involving both GM wheat and GM flax was also recently discovered in the food supply, and both a result of biotechnology company field trials.

"No GM rice has ever been grown commercially in the U.S. and the source of the contamination is believed to be field trials of herbicide tolerant rice conducted between the mid-1990s and early-2000s by Bayer CropScience (or its precursor companies Aventis CropScience and AgrEvo)," explains the GM Contamination Register entry. "At the time of discovery only one of the contaminating varieties (LLRICE62) had approval for cultivation in the U.S., the other two varieties (LLRICE601 and LLRICE604) had not."

A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) investigation into the matter was unable to verify whether or not contamination was the result of cross-pollination, also known as gene flow, or mechanical mixing. But in either case, vagrant GM rice planted in open fields for "testing" purposes definitely escaped, and now American rice farmers are suffering the consequences as the European Union (EU), Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and others have placed strict limitations on GM rice imports. Both Russia and Bulgaria, on the other hand, have completely banned all rice imports from the U.S.

"The contamination episode has also affected seed producers," adds the report, which is buried deep within the annals of the consumer watchdog group's website, completely untouched by the mainstream media. "[A]n entire non-GM rice variety Clearfield 131 was banned by U.S. regulators in early 2007 when it was found to be contaminated, costing producer BASF billions of dollars in losses."

American agriculture, the pale horse of the coming food apocalypse

So as the four horsemen of the apocalypse come galloping in on the world scene in the very near future, you can be sure that the pale horse, which symbolizes famine, was born and bred in the U.S. Yes, the world's most aggressive and malicious purveyor of GMOs and all the horrors that come with their consumption will be the primary driving force behind the complete destruction of the global food supply via the Trojan Horse that is GMOs.

"Scientific studies confirm that GM contamination is unavoidable once GM crops are grown in a region," explains the Earth Open Source report GMO Myths and Truths: An evidence-based examination of the claims made for the safety and efficacy of genetically modified crops. "'Coexistence' rapidly results in widespread contamination of non-GM crops ... through cross-pollination, spread of GM seed by farm machinery, and inadvertent mixing during storage."

Genetically-modified soy, Roundup destroying life in South America

Wednesday, July 03, 2013 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer
http://www.naturalne...th_America.html

(NaturalNews) Advocates of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) need only take a close look at the current situation in South America to very quickly learn that corporate biotechnology is simply not working. Not only are GMOs destroying native cultures and the ecosystems its people groups rely on for sustenance, but the technology itself, which is heavily reliant on toxic pesticide chemicals like Roundup (glyphosate), is also killing off the people themselves, including many young children whose systems cannot tolerate heavy doses of life-killing poisons.

In a four-part series compiled by GMWatch.eu, investigative journalist Dario Aranda offers unique insight into what is actually taking place on the ground in South America, and specifically in Argentina where massive GM soy plantations have supplanted the rich biodiversity of yesteryear. Aranda spoke with an everyday mother, a rural doctor, a lawyer, and a community educator about the widespread use of Roundup in Argentina, and each one of these folks offered the same input - glyphosate and the crops it is sprayed on are completely destroying the country.

Glyphosate is killing children

In his first interview, Aranda spoke with a mother whose children were being sickened by sprayings of glyphosate in fields near her neighborhood. Viviana Peralta observed that her newborn daughter Ailen was falling ill every other day or so, and later made the connection to glyphosate. Peralta successfully convinced a local judge that the sprayings were directly responsible for poisoning not only her children but also many others in the area, despite vehement denial from the soy industry, and a mandatory buffer zone was eventually established. But the fight was not easy.

"We've always lived peacefully, but since the soybean production started everything has changed," Peralta is quoted as saying. "We cannot live here anymore. We've been poisoned. I always tell people the same thing. I do not know about chemistry, I did not go to university, but I know what my whole family has suffered. They are living proof that agrochemicals are poisons that affect us. To all people who are not familiar with this model of agriculture, I always say the same thing: Do not trust these companies. Reject agrochemicals. Do it for the life of your children."

Glyphosate is killing adults

Similar sentiments have been expressed by Mariano Aguilar, Executive Director of the Environmental Lawyers Association of Argentina. Aguilar has observed the massive destruction caused by GM crops in Argentina since they were first introduced roughly two decades ago, which has prompted him to call for a nationwide ban on glyphosate. Deformities, miscarriages, skin problems, cancer, and many other diseases have become prominent as a direct result of glyphosate use.

"With this system, there are soybeans grown even on the sides of the roads; this, of course, at the expense of the health and well-being of the nearby residents," says Aguilar. "They've been left with barren land for other enterprises. Under these conditions, in Argentina, we do not know about a 'sustainable model.' We believe it's bread for today and hunger for tomorrow."

Glyphosate is killing everyone

Dr. Dario Gianfelici agrees, having noted during his interview that cancer and fetal deaths have risen dramatically in his town since the introduction of GM soy and glyphosate. Rates of early fetal death and death during delivery skyrocketed in the immediate months and years following the advent of GMOs, and deaths from cancer, even among young people, also rose dramatically, according to Dr. Gianfelici.

"The real problem is chronic poisoning, where symptoms are seen after 10, 15 or 20 years of exposure," says Dr. Gianfelici. "Because of this, no one makes the association between their exposure to agrochemicals, so many years ago, with their infertility, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer or thyroid cancer."

You can read transcripts of all four interviews at the links below this article.

Bees dying by the millions

By Jon Radojkovic
Wednesday, June 19, 2013

http://www.thepost.o...by-the-millions

ELMWOOD, Ontario, CANADA - Local beekeepers are finding millions of their bees dead just after corn was planted here in the last few weeks. Dave Schuit, who has a honey operation in Elmwood, lost 600 hives, a total of 37 million bees.

“Once the corn started to get planted our bees died by the millions,” Schuit said. He and many others, including the European Union, are pointing the finger at a class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, manufactured by Bayer CropScience Inc. used in planting corn and some other crops. The European Union just recently voted to ban these insecticides for two years, beginning December 1, 2013, to be able to study how it relates to the large bee kill they are experiencing there also.

Local grower Nathan Carey from the Neustadt, and National Farmers Union Local 344 member, says he noticed this spring the lack of bees and bumblebees on his farm. He believes that there is a strong connection between the insecticide use and the death of pollinators.
“I feel like we all have something at stake with this issue,” he said. He is organizing a public workshop and panel discussion about this problem at his farm June 22 at 10 a.m. He hopes that all interested parties can get together and talk about the reason bees, the prime pollinators of so any different plant species, are dying.

At the farm of Gary Kenny, south west of Hanover, eight of the 10 hives he kept for a beekeeper out of Kincardine, died this spring just after corn was planted in neighbouring fields.

What seems to be deadly to bees is that the neonicotinoid pesticides are coating corn seed and with the use of new air seeders, are blowing the pesticide dust into the air when planted. The death of millions of pollinators was looked at by American Purdue University. They found that, “Bees exhibited neurotoxic symptoms, analysis of dead bees revealed traces of thiamethoxam/clothianidin in each case. Seed treatments of field crops (primarily corn) are the only major source of these compounds.

Local investigations near Guelph, led to the same conclusion. A Pest Management Regulatory Agency investigation confirmed that corn seeds treated with clothianidin or thiamethoxam “contributed to the majority of the bee mortalities” last spring.

“The air seeders are the problem,” said Ontario Federation of Agriculture director Paul Wettlaufer, who farms near Neustadt. This was after this reporter called John Gillespie, OFA Bruce County president, who told me to call Wettlaufer. Unfortunately, Wettlaufer said it was, “not a local OFA issue,” and that it was an issue for the Grain Farmers of Ontario and representative, Hennry Vanakum should be notified. Vanakum could not be rached for comment.

Yet Guelph University entomologist Peter Kevan, disagreed with the EU ban.
“There’s very little evidence to say that neonicotinoids, in a very general sense, in a broad scale sense, have been a major component in the demise of honeybees or any other pollinators, anywhere in the world,” said Kevan.

But research is showing that honeybee disorders and high colony losses have become a global phenomena. An international team of scientists led by Holland’s Utrecht University concluded that, ”Large scale prophylaxic use in agriculture, their high persistence in soil and water, and their uptake by plants and translocation to flowers, neonicotinoids put pollinator services at risk.” This research and others rsulted in the Eurpean Union ban.

The United Church is also concerned about the death of so many pollinators and has prepared a “Take Action” paper it’s sending out to all its members. The church is basing its action on local research. The Take Action paper states among other things, “Scientific information gathered suggests that the planting of corn seeds treated with neonicotinoids contributed to the majority of the bee mortalities that occurred in corn growing regions of Ontario and Quebec in Spring 2012.”

Meanwhile Schuit is replacing his queen bees every few months now instead of years, as they are dying so frequently. “OMAFRA tells me to have faith. Well, I think it’s criminal what is happening, and it’s hard to have faith if it doesn’t look like they are going to do anything anyway,” Schuit says.

SOME EDUCATION ABOUT GM FOODS

-Are GM crops cheaper to grow?
GM seeds are more expensive to buy and a farmer might need to spend money and time training workers on how to grow the new crops. He might save in the cost of pesticides and he might end up with a larger crops in quantity.

-What forty-three percent of the world's crops of this non-food item are genetically modified
Ninety-three percent of the cotton grown in the U.S. and 43 percent of the cotton grown around the world is genetically modified.

-Which country has a complete ban on GM foods and food products?
Starting in 2001, all GM foods, whether raw or in the form of products or ingredients, are banned in Sri Lanka. Countries like Japan , Egypt, and Norway have partial bans on certain crops or products.

-Have GM foods been shown as safe to eat?
No, Since there's no mandatory testing system in place, it's impossible to determine whether all GM foods are safe.

-Have Human deaths been linked to GM food consumption?
Death of animals have been linked not humans; as to the effects of GM foods on humans, like cancers, it would take years to show.

-Who is responsible for inspection control and safety testing of GMOs in the U.S.?
There is no mandatory testing for GM foods grown in the US

-What is outcrossing?
Is the accidental movement of GM plants into the wild, it can cause food safety concerns, especially in the case of GM foods that are not meant for human consumption.

-tangelos (tangerines and grapefruits), pluots (plums and apricots), graisins (giant raisins) are real GM fruits born by crossing two fruits and modifying genes?

-Diet sodas contain aspartame, which is a GM product. Some experimentation with fruits has taken place, but apples are currently non-GM.

-Are genetic modification and hybridizing seeds the same?
Hybrids are seeds of the same type that have been crossed or combined to make a stronger, better seed. No new genes or elements are introduced, as is the case with GMs.

-What kinds of traits have NOT been added to food crops?
Aromatic enhancement. Taste- and color-enhancing genes have been introduced into plants, but aroma is not an important enough consideration to warrant expensive genetic modifications.
While antibiotics, herbicide tolerance and weed-killing genes have been added to food crops.

-Are there environmental benefits of growing GM foods?
GM foods often are created with a gene that protects them from pests without the need for chemicals (pesticides and herbicides) that might be harmful to the environment and the species living nearby. ("if pests will not touch a GM fresh crop then humans should do likewise" opponents to GM foods claim)

-What percentage of the corn grown in the U.S. is GM?
85 percent; corn is second only to soybeans as a GM food in USA.

-Maize (corn) is the only GM crop currently grown in Europe. Any other GM food consumed in Europe gets imported from the U.S. or Canada if not banned by European regulations.

-Bt corn is a GM food that kills pests, reducing the need for insecticides. It also causes the death of the monarch caterpillars. However, although monarchs may ingest some Bt pollen while eating their normal milkweed diet, it's probably not enough to harm them.

-Which of the following foods may contain genetically modified ingredients? 1-popcorn. 2-baby formula. 3-canned soups.
All of the three; Hundreds of everyday products contain GM foods. Even frozen pizza and cookies may be modified.

-Whole grains such as rye and barley are not genetically modified. Yeast and grapes are non-GM, but GM enzymes sometimes are used during the production and processing of alcoholic beverages.

-According to the Center for Food Safety, up to 75 percent of the food items found on supermarket shelves in the U.S. contain genetically modified ingredients. More than in Canada, China and UK.

-What did Obama promise in 2007?
To label all GMO food sold in US as such, but never kept his promise so we are not aware when GM foods are consumed by us; and on contrary in 2013 Obama signed the law excepting and protecting Monsanto and others who produce GMO seeds from any lawsuits of harm and damage caused by consuming their GM foods by humans by planting their GM seeds.

This is a nice YouTube video of half an hour of protests against GMO in Hawaii. A mother's child gets sick from Monsanto crop spraying in small island of Molokoi, she contacts Monsanto and they tell her it is OK and the spraying is not harmful, so she does her own research and finds out it is harmful and cause for her child's sickness and that Monsanto is lying to her, so she starts and organize anti-GMO & Monsanto rallies in the capital..

frankenfoods become more deadly GM Cabbage with Scorpion Poison Coming Soon

http://mynaturesmedi...on-coming-soon/

Get ready for genetically engineered cabbages that come complete with their own scorpion poison, just for you to eat. It’s touted as requiring less pesticide use and being, of course, completely safe. Close investigation, though, indicates that neither claim is likely true.

A pesticide made with scorpion poison genetically engineered into a virus was first tested back in 1994. Interestingly, the scientists who sprayed the test field wore full body suits to protect them from this “harmless” poison. One must wonder at just how safe it could be when the developers themselves don’t trust it more than that! Of course, the head of the trial, Professor David Bishop, insisted that the trial was safe—though he himself opted to take a vacation, rather than be there for it.

In the newer incarnation of scorpion poison genetic engineering, genes from the scorpion, Androctonus australus hector, for production of poison are being genetically engineered into cabbages. The goal is to produce them for public consumption. With the FDA’s history of rubberstamp approvals for genetically modified crops, it seems unlikely that anything will interfere with their production and entry into a supermarket near you.

Let’s examine the justifications given for this never-to-be-found-in-nature cabbage-scorpion chimera:

1. It will result in the use of less pesticide.

At first blush, this seems to make sense. But it’s specious reasoning. The reality is that, instead of spraying pesticides onto the plants, the plants will contain them in every single cell. The result is that the pesticide will end up in the bodies of people who eat the cabbage. Thus, human beings will become the unofficial pesticide sinks, instead of the environment. I suppose there’s a plus in that, but I do not personally intend to be one of those pesticide sinks. Do you?

2. It’s completely safe.

Where have we heard that before? In this instance it stems from two things:

  • The scorpion venom has been modified so that it won’t hurt humans: This isn’t quite true. What they’ve done is select a section of the genome  that codes for a toxin, called AAiT, which is known to be poisonous to insects.
  • A study that purports to show that it does no harm to humans[2]: Well … not exactly. The human testing was not performed on live people, nor was it performed on normal healthy cells. It was tested on MCF-7 breast cancer cells—not exactly normal human cells. Do you find that comforting? I certainly don’t.

Will Frankencabbages (GMO-cabbages) Be Effective At Stopping Pests?

This is, of course, the real issue, because it’s why Agribusiness would want it. That could prove to be a problem. According to the study on AAiT’s toxicity against insect cells, the toxicity is greatly limited by ingestion. The authors wrote: "Low toxicity with an LC50 of 18.4 μM was recorded in artificial diet incorporation assay in which the toxin was consumed by the testing insect through feeding. We suggested that this might be a result of toxin degradation by digestion.

The LD50—the point at which 50% of the insects die—was recorded at only 0.13 μM when AAiT was applied directly. They found a difference of “2 orders of magnitude” when the toxin was directly applied instead of ingested. That’s a huge difference—and would tend to suggest that the scorpion toxin won’t be all that effective in the plants, since it must be ingested by insects. So, in all likelihood, sprays will still be used.

Will this matter to the buyers of Franken-cabbage (GBM-cabbage) seeds? It’s hard to say, but the history of these products would tend to indicate a remarkable gullibility. Consider that production has never been much better in genetically engineered seeds, and when it has, it’s tended to deteriorate over time. The legacy of Roundup Ready, glyphosate-resistant, crops has been superweeds that not only are resistant to glyphosate, but grow much bigger and faster than the original weeds. Keep in mind, also, that the use of genetically modified seeds tends to come with codicils that lock the buyer, and even subsequent users of the land, into buying nothing else.

Perhaps, ultimately, it will be the Frankenseeds themselves that destroy Agribusiness! They’re locked into a system that is proving not to work. The real question, then, is whether they’ll destroy the earth—and us—before they’ve destroyed themselves.

New Reasons to Run Away From GMOs
By Jeffrey M. Smith
August 12, 2013

http://www.thenhf.co...cle.php?id=3663

Are genetically modified (GM) foods making you sick – I mean really sick? Up until recently, all we could say was, thank goodness you’re not a lab rat; GM feed messes them up big time. GMOs (genetically modified organisms) appear to trigger the immune systems of both mice and rats as if they were under attack. In addition, the gastrointestinal system is adversely affected, animals show signs of accelerated aging, and vital organs are damaged.  Lab animals can also become infertile, have smaller or sterile offspring, increased infant mortality, and even hair growing in their mouths. Have I got your attention?

Biotechnology corporations such as Monsanto try to distort or deny the evidence, sometimes pointing to their own studies that supposedly show no reactions. But when scientists such as French toxicologist G.E. Seralini reanalyze Monsanto’s raw data, the rats fed GM corn actually suffered from clear signs of toxicity – evidence that industry scientists skillfully overlooked.

Doctors Prescribe Non-GMO Diets; Remarkable Recoveries

Although there have been no human clinical trials, experts conclude that there is sufficient evidence from animal feeding studies to remove GMOs altogether. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) called for a moratorium in 2009 based on their review of the research. According to their former president Dr. Robin Bernhoft, the Academy “recommends that all physicians should prescribe non-genetically modified food for all patients, and that we should educate all of our patients on the potential health dangers, and known health dangers of GMO food.” Today, thousands of physicians and nutritionists do just that, and they report that a wide variety of health conditions improve after people make the change.

Trial consultant LaDonna Carlton, for example, had to take two pills, three times a day, to suppress the painful cramps and constant diarrhea associated with her irritable bowel syndrome.  “My doctor told me I would be on this forever,” says LaDonna. But then she met a new doctor, internist Emily Lindner, MD. “The first thing she did,” says LaDonna, “was take me off GMOs,” including soy, corn, canola oil, and sugar. “Within two months,” she says, “I didn’t need the medication any longer.”

Since LaDonna stopped preparing foods with GMOs, her husband Fred was swept along with the new diet. And he’s glad he was. “I feel 10 times better,” he says. At 73, Fred plays full-court basketball, even with two artificial knees. The new diet, he says, “made me feel much younger . . . I feel like I’m 50.”

Interior designer Carol Salb also recovered from irritable bowel, as well as cold hands and feet, thinning hair, allergies, and daily congestion.  “I felt better in two and half weeks,” she says. That was six years ago and she’s still going strong.

We interviewed former school teacher Theresa Haerle on her 25th day on the new diet and she had already shed more than ten pounds. Even more remarkable was her recovery from 30 years of colitis – on the third day of her diet. In addition, her skin problems started to clear, she had more energy than she’d had in years, and it no longer hurt to get out of bed in the morning.

Kids are recovering. One middle-schooler changed his diet and no longer suffers from incapacitating migraines and asthma. Another recovered from horrible pain in his gut.

Although these patient interviews had been set up by their physicians, at the Institute for Responsible Technology we’ve heard similar unsolicited stories for a long time. Laurie lost 35 pounds in one year. Paul’s restless leg syndrome is gone – unless he accidentally eats a GMO. Many say their symptoms go away when visiting Europe, where food companies removed GMOs long ago due to consumer rejection.

Dr. Lindner says, “I tell my patients to avoid genetically modified foods because in my experience, with those foods there is more allergies and asthma,” as well as digestive issues such as gas, bloating, irritable bowel, colitis, and leaky gut. “And what emanates from that,” she says, “is everything. Lots of arthritis problems, autoimmune diseases, anxiety . . . neurological problems; anything that comes from an inspired immune system response.”

The speed of recovery varies, usually depending on the symptom. “When I change people from a GMO diet to a GMO-free diet,” she says, “I see results instantaneously in people that have foggy thinking and people that have gut symptoms like bloating, gas, irritation. In terms of allergies, it might take two to five days. In terms of depression, it starts to lift almost instantaneously. It takes from a day, to certainly within two weeks.” Full results usually take about 4-6 weeks. Dr. Lindner doesn’t just eliminate GMOs in her dietary regimen; but that step, she says, is the most critical component.

Similar Livestock Stories – Without the Cofactors

People who switch to non-GMO diets often do so by buying organic foods – which are not allowed to use GMOs. This raises a critical point in the analysis. Were the health recoveries stemming from eliminating GMOs or from the reduction in chemicals and increased nutrition found in organics? Similarly, since most GMOs in our diet are found in processed foods, some people reduced GMOs by cooking from scratch. So they simultaneously eliminate additives that may contribute to disorders. And for others, they may also eliminate food categories such as gluten or dairy based on a diagnosis. So what’s really causing these dramatic recoveries?

Fortunately, the experience of numerous veterinarians and farmers around the World gives us insight. When they take livestock off GMO soy or corn and substitute the non-GMO equivalent, they don’t have these pesky co-factors. The animals are not eating organic, there’s no change in nutrients or additives, and the results are breathtaking.

When a Danish pig farmer switched to non-GMO soy in April 2011 for his 450 sows and their offspring, within two days the animals’ serious diarrhea problems virtually disappeared. During the following year, death from ulcers and other digestive problems, which had claimed 36 pigs over the previous two years, vanished. Conception rate was up, litter size was up, diseases were down, and birth defects were eliminated.

An Iowa farmer saw immediate changes in his 3000-pig nursery after switching to non-GMO corn last December. Not only is there a lower rate of disease and medicine bills, he says, “Our pigs are happier and more playful.”

A feedlot operator with 5,000 head of cattle also switched to non-GMO corn and reported, “We’ve had a lot less pneumonia and health issues since that time.” Like the pig farmer, the behavior changed noticeably. His “cattle have been a lot calmer.” Many farmers who were struggling with large rates of infertility and miscarriages say they turned the situation around after switching to non-GMO feed.

Renowned veterinarian and author Michael W. Fox, whose syndicated column has reached tens of millions, says that when GMOs were introduced, cats and dogs started suffering from much higher rates of allergies, itching, and gastrointestinal problems. He has a file drawer full of letters from happy pet owners confirming that his advice to switch the pets to non-GMO and organic feed cleared up the problem.

Repeating Symptoms: From Lab Rats to Consumers

What is striking about all these reports is the similarity of experiences. Many of the same categories of disorders identified in animal feeding studies by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, e.g. gastrointestinal, immune, and reproductive, also clear up in humans and livestock when they switch to a non-GMO diet. Moreover, these same problems are on the rise in the US population since GMOs were introduced in 1996. Inflammatory bowel disease is up 40 percent. Multiple chronic illness nearly doubled in nine years. Food allergies, infertility, asthma, autoimmune diseases, etc. have accelerated among US consumers, nearly all of whom eat GMOs without even knowing it.

Even autism rates may be impacted. When an autism specialist heard a scientist lecture about the behavioral, neurological, and physiological changes in mice, rats, and livestock fed GMOs, he told the speaker afterwards, “That’s exactly what we are finding in our autistic children.” Many parents report significant improvements in behavior and gastrointestinal disorders in their autistic children, after they remove GMOs from the diet. (See http://www.responsib...logy.org/autism.)

How Could GMOs Be So Bad?

To understand how genetically engineered crops might contribute to so many serious disorders, it is helpful to understand a few details of the technology. GM crops have foreign genes inserted into their DNA, which is followed by cloning those cells into plants.

  1. Irrespective of which foreign gene is used, the very process of insertion and cloning causes massive collateral damage to the plants’ natural DNA. This has resulted, for example, in a new allergen in Monsanto’s GM corn and a huge allergen increase in their GM soy. Most of these types of unexpected side effects, which can add toxins or carcinogens to our meals, are never even screened for.

  2. The GM crops on the market have added genetic material from bacteria and viruses. These pieces of DNA, as well as the RNA and proteins they produce, have never been part of the human diet; that can be a problem for the immune system. According to Martha Grout, M.D.,Genetically modified foods create inflammation in the system.” Inflammation, in turn, can lead to a wide variety of diseases, including allergies, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and heart disease. Dr. Emily Lindner likewise interprets the impact of GMOs as “an immune or inflammatory response” and treats it accordingly.
  3. The gene inserted into certain GM corn and cotton varieties is designed to provoke a response –

in insects that is. The gene produces a poison called Bt-toxin that kills certain bugs by breaking holes in their digestive tracts. In spite of assurances by the biotech industry to the contrary, a study published this year confirmed that the toxin also breaks holes in human cells. A Canadian study in 2011 found Bt-toxin from Monsanto’s corn circulating in the blood of 93% of the pregnant women tested, as well as in 80% of their unborn fetuses. Bt corn might therefore not only provoke an inflamed, leaky digestive tract, it might wreak havoc in our blood stream, and in the delicate brains of infants, whose blood brain barriers are not developed.

  1. Three minor GM crops – papaya (grown in Hawaii and China exclusively), zucchini, and yellow crookneck squash – have inserted virus genes designed to fend off disease. Eating these, however, may have the exact opposite effect on us. Viral genes can produce viral proteins, which as a class are well-known to suppress the body’s defenses against viral infection. They can also be toxic.

  2. The most widely used GMOs are called “herbicide tolerant,” including soy, corn, cotton, canola, sugar beets, and alfalfa. This trait allows farmers to spray Monsanto’s weed killer Roundup, for example, on their Roundup Ready crops without killing them. The genes inserted into these plants produce proteins with allergenic properties. Perhaps of greater concern is that the sprayed toxins are concentrated into the food portion of the plant and end up in our diet. Roundup is linked to cancer, Parkinson’s, birth defects, and endocrine disruption.
  3. And now the bad news. The only human feeding study confirmed that part of the gene inserted into Roundup Ready soybeans can transfer into DNA of bacteria living inside our intestines. If the transferred genes continue to produce proteins (and there is evidence suggesting it does), then we may have allergens, viral proteins, or even Bt-toxin continuously manufactured within our own digestive tract.

OK, the Good News

Fortunately, as people learn about the health dangers of GMOs, feel better from non-GMO diets, and tell others, the non-GMO movement grows. There are now millions who seek healthier non-GMO foods. Since GMOs offer no consumer benefits; and since the same major food companies in North American already removed GMOs from their European brands due to consumer rejection, any measurable drop in sales that is linked with growing anti-GMO sentiment here will likely trigger a rapid race to non-GMO status. The tipping point threshold is likely to require only about 5% of consumers.

But a critical vote in Washington State this November may accelerate the non-GMO revolution. A measure requiring mandatory labeling of GMOs is on the ballot. If passed, we think food companies would rather avoid GMOs than admit they use them. Especially since 53% of Americans say they would choose the non-GMO brands once labels give them a clear choice. I’ll bet that after learning about the evidence of health dangers that percentage will grow.

Global Scientists Issue Stunning GMO Safety Warning – Breaking News
October 23, 2013 by admin2
http://mynaturesmedi...-breaking-news/
http://sustainablepu...fety_ENG_LV.pdf

There is no scientific consensus on the safety of genetically modified foods and crops, according to a statement released today by an international group of more than 90 scientists, academics and physicians.

The statement comes in response to recent claims from the GM industry and some scientists, journalists, and commentators that there is a “scientific consensus” that GM foods and crops were generally found safe for human and animal health and the environment. The statement calls these claims “misleading”, adding, “This claimed consensus on GMO safety does not exist.”

“Such claims may place human and environmental health at undue risk and create an atmosphere of complacency,” states Dr. Angelika Hilbeck, chairperson of the European Network of Scientists for Social and Environmental Responsibility (ENSSER) and one of the signatories. “The statement draws attention to the diversity of opinion over GMOs in the scientific community and the often contradictory or inconclusive findings of studies on GMO safety. These include toxic effects on laboratory animals fed GM foods, increased pesticide use from GM crop cultivation, and the unexpected impacts of Bt insecticidal crops on beneficial and non-target organisms,” Dr Hilbeck continues.

In spite of this nuanced and complex picture, a group of like-minded people makes sweeping claims that GM crops and foods are safe. In reality, many unanswered questions remain and in some cases there is serious cause for concern.

Prof C. Vyvyan Howard, a medically qualified toxicopathologist based at the University of Ulster and a signatory to the statement, said: “A substantial number of studies suggest that GM crops and foods can be toxic or allergenic. It is often claimed that millions of Americans eat GM foods with no ill effects. But as the US has no GMO labeling and no epidemiological studies have been carried out, there is no way of knowing whether the rising rates of chronic diseases seen in that country have anything to do with GM food consumption or not. Therefore this claim has no scientific basis.”

The signatories to the statement call for the compliance to the precautionary approach to GM crops and foods internationally agreed upon in the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and UN’s Codex Alimentarius.

Commenting on the statement, one of the signatories, Prof Ernst-Ulrich von Weizsacker, Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel (UNEP) and Co-President of The Club of Rome, said: “The future of food and agriculture is one of the great challenges of humankind of the 21 century. The claim of scientific consensus on GMO safety is misleading and misrepresents diverse and inconclusive scientific evidence. The full range of scientific research needs to be taken into account, in open, transparent and honest debates which involve the broader society, when decisions of global concern are being made. This is a responsibility of scientists and science.”

Another signatory to the statement, Prof Brian Wynne, associate director and co-principal investigator from 2002-2012 of the UK ESRC Centre for the Economic and Social Aspects of Genomics, Cesagen, Lancaster University, said: “It is misleading and irresponsible for anyone to claim that there is a consensus on these important issues. Many salient questions remain open, while more are being discovered and reported by independent scientists in the international scientific literature. Indeed answering of some key public interest questions based on such research have been left neglected for years by the huge imbalance in research funding, against thorough biosafety research and in favour of the commercial-scientific promotion of the technology.”

This statement is released by ENSSER the week after the World Food Prize was awarded to employees of the GM seed giants Monsanto and Syngenta. This award has provoked outrage worldwide and stands in stark contrast to recent rulings in several countries restricting or banning the field release or commercialisation of certain GM crops. These include 9 countries in Europe and Mexico, but also developing countries like Bangladesh, Philippines, India where an indefinite moratorium on field release trials was recommended by the Technical Expert Committee of the Supreme Court unless certain conditions are met including proper safety testing.

Furthermore, GMO approvals are under legal challenge in Argentina and Brazil due to questions over the scientific basis of approvals. Most if not all of them underline the lack of proof of safety and insufficient testing.

Signatories of the statement include prominent and respected scientists, including Dr Hans Herren, a former winner of the World Food Prize and this year’s Alternative Nobel Prize laureate, and Dr Pushpa Bhargava, known as the father of modern biotechnology in India.

ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES TO TIGHTEN GRIP UPON USAGE OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS

YEREVAN, October 25. /ARKA/. A bill implying a stronger control over GMO usage was put on the Armenian National Assembly's floor on Friday again.

Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan, presenting the bill to lawmakers, stressed its importance saying that certain mechanisms are needed for keeping GMO usage under control.

"Any genetically modified organism may be harmful to human health and life, and therefore we must regulate this matter - the bill is aimed at this," he said. "The ministry wants to put together opinions and experience of respected international laboratories, but their work is not satisfactory now."

The minister said people have a right to know what products they consumed. He said to put things right it is necessary to improve laws.

Harutyunyan called on MPs to voice their proposals.

Artashes Ziroyan, chief of the nature protection ministry's division in charge of management of bio resources, on his side, said that the bill proposes mechanisms which will leave no room for adverseimpacts of GMOs on environment, bio diversity and human health or will lessen them.

He stressed that many experts had been involved in development of this bill . The bill was passed by the National Assembly at the first reading on October 21.

Dear Mos, shall we assume that you actually believe in that gobbledygook?
Who is this Samuel Garabedian? Is he an scientist, a biologist or nutritionist?
This GMO nonsense is the latest fad since the nuclear war scare, armageddon and end of the world prophesies.
How many do you know who have died from eating Snickers, and drinking Coca Cola.. Etc.
Oddly and fortunately Mr. Garabedian does include in the list of deadly concoctions
Herissa, Khash, Khorwats and Lavash.
Whose END are they talking about? :silly:

How is this different from when the corn that was a mere grass was modified to be what it is today. How about Red Tomatoes of today which were golden brown before, hence the Latin name Pomidoro/Golden Apple. To not forget the wolf that is known as a dog now.
