It apears that Nazis and Soviets had developed separate plans for liberation of Western Armenia. Anyone wants to shed some light on this?

Stalin exploited the nationalism of many Soviet ethnic groups (when he wasn't having them deported or exiled to Central Asia and Siberia) in order to gain support for his wars and plans. He also wanted to "liberate" the Azeri-populated region of Iran and attach it to the Azerbaijan SSR. He exploited Russian/Slavic nationalism the most; it was under Stalin that the Soviet anthem was switched from "The Internationale" to the "State Anthem," which mentioned the "Great Rus," thereby emphasizing Russian centrality.

Had he acquired those lands, I don't think he would have had them attached most of it to the Armenian SSR. Maybe Ararat, Kars, and Ani. The rest probably would have been given to Georgia (the Georgians were just as excited about acquiring their "ancient lands").

it was under Stalin that the Soviet anthem was switched from "The Internationale" to the "State Anthem," which mentioned the "Great Rus," thereby emphasizing Russian centrality.

I should add that the new anthem was co-written by an Armenian (Gabriel El-Registan). :D
