Gangs of New York (just saw it last night) - 8.7  - DVD

I just want to Add, typical Marin Scorsese movie, intense, graphic, one I mostly watched this movie because of him, and I do agree with your wife it was a bit too much blood. Never less a great movie.

Thoth did you see his "LAST TEPMTATIONS OF CRIST" ?

Exactly - I wanted to see it because it was Scorcese...(not for Leonardo! LOL - or even - whats her name..the Blond...)...Danial Day Lewis did a great job though - don't you think..I couldn't figure out who it was - had to wait until the credits...but yeah - great movie - very engaging...if violent certainly (understatement)...

and no - have yet to see Last Temptation...certainly on my list...need to see it...

Ok here is another must see for you

"MYSTIC RIVER" Sean Peen was great, so was the movie, check it out

Daniel Day Lewis is one of my respected actors of all time, so diverse and creative.

Last temptations I think is among (aren’t they all?) Scorcesies best works, you’ll love the soundtrack!!
There was a bid controversy from various religious (Christian) establishments in this country, well after you watch it you’ll know why.

Thoth-jan

Kill Bill marshallah bloody er! :P

It might be a bit much, there's a close up seens of stabbings, beheadings and head-shots(from a gun), so it might be too much for the kiddies.

Thanks for your recomendations Thoth - but could you extend your recomendations to some rather more obscure films so that I know which to miss. I mean, everyone knows that "Gangs of New York" was about as rotten a turkey as turkeys can get. And every knows Tarentino's films are for a cretins-only audience. But, knowing of your "taste" in music, I'll take your comment about the soundtrack of Last temptations to heart - that will be one to miss.

Sorry Mr Cultured Pom....Being a simple man I (and many others) enjoy the more simple things in life (ie. film violence and tarentino humour). True not all tarentinos films are worth viewing, but Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown most certainly are.

Better than the 1957 vintage "My relationship with grandmother" Finish film than won the Canneburg Film Festival Award of that year for the best sex scenes - the sort of tripe you might prefer.

So I say stop masturbating over those steamy French and Swedish films and get a life....

Disclaimer: Referenced Film and Award may not exist

I saw "About Schmidt" on video - I think it is a pretty good movie although a little too depressing. There aren't many American movies like that.

Not all? Hmmm, hasn't the gonk only made 4 or 5 films. So you think the one film he made that is generally accepted as being OK (Resevoir Dogs - mainly coz he copied it from other films) is actually not worth watching?

I wish I had kept a review of Kill Bill I read recently, so that I could have posted it here. It brilliantly cut the film, and one-trick-Tarantino, and those that continue to like his outdated, juvenile, derivative films, to shreads.

I recently had the great pleasure of seeing the "long version" of The Wicker Man" in a cinema. A brilliant, beautiful, original, and damn near perfect film.

There was supposed to have been an American remake planned, but, fortunately, nothing has come of it yet. Hollywood would ruin it just like it ruined Solaris, and The Ring (which reminds me that the original Japanese version is on TV right now - must go!)

Looking forward to Mystic River - Clint Eastwood's new movie (he's directing, that is), anyone seen it yet?

The Unforgiven was pretty good, so i have high expectations...

I foget the name of the one thats not worth watching....it stars him and Clooney as his brother. Their criminals and carjack a family and head over the border to Mexico to some bar, and everyone turns into zombies: utter crap.

Yeah Accel - that was - "from Dusk till Dawn" - and agreed - trash...still Pulp Fiction - and Resevoir Dogs are classics - both are great flicks...
